I came here for brunch once and for 2 people we managed to spend $40.00 for 2 plates and some coffee. The food was HORRIBLE! They had real bacon that was the nastiest thing I ever tasted, it was a piece of thick LARD that had no meat on it. The portions were tiny!!!!!
GO HAVE A GREAT MEAL FOR HALF THE COST DOWN THE STREET AT IHOP!!! SAVE YOURSELF THE TROUBLE!
The food was ok. It was southern with a unique twist. The food tasted somewhat re-heated and the shrimp basket only had 6 small shrimp. The mac and cheese is wonderful. Artwork is strange with a few politically incorrect racial paintings in a corner near middle of the dining area. Then again, it is the south.
Wow, surprised to see all the hate! In my opinion, this little joint is one of the best restaurants in Charleston (guess they had some time to iron out all the kinks). Their daily menu (written on a giant blackboard by the front door) changes according to what is available locally and seasonally. They feature delicious South Carolina ocean-caught shrimp, local produce, and all-natural poultry and meat. Very affordable considering the high quality of the product (think they serve farm-fresh eggs at IHOP?). Everything I have eaten has been spot on, but some faves are the house-made pastas, the mustard-fried catfish po-boy, and, on Saturday brunches, the pimento cheese omelet. Great for a casual lunch, but dinner is where the real deals are. As for the indigenous folk art that decorates the walls, the pieces give the diningroom a charming, lively atmosphere. If that offends you--well, your loss.
