I started going to this place in 2008. The food was very good and to be fair, the food is still good.
The BIG problem is that it is now a sit down place instead of ordering at the cash register and you can't get your own drinks at the soda machine any longer. The reason it's a huge deal is that the last time I went, the place was a complete mess and it took 20 minutes for someone to clean up the place and to order our food. It was after 2:00pm, so the lunch crowd was long gone. I stayed and gave it a chance since I remember the how good the food was.
Sometimes, simple is better. The service was better/faster and the place was more efficient before. I don't understand the change. To their credit the food is still good, but I can now find food its equal at Chilitos on Pierce. It is A LOT closer to where I live and the food very good. I can order at the register, get my own drinks at the soda machine, and they have a salsa bar that they keep clean. The entire place itself is clean and new with good decor.
The only thing Chilitos doesn't have a leg above Super-Mex is the Chili Rojo. That's only minor to me though. The both give you complimentary chips(Chilitos) or tostadas(Super-Mex). Chilitos though have Fish Tacos that are the BOMB! The Carne Asada tacos are just right(Not overly greasy and not dry). The Carne Asada Nachos can feed at least four people and they cost only $6.00.
I'm sorry to give more rave reviews to Chilitos, but it's a hidden gem. I don't work there or know anyone that works there. I had no clue it was there. It's kinda hidden behind the Farmer Boys on Pierce. It's just that I don't have to drive a long distance any longer for killer Mexican food and I'm stoked about that.
Sorry Super-Mex. Your food is still good, but I prefer a simple setting. Sit down restaurants are overrated for me. I don't have to depend on a good server or roll the dice in hopes of not getting a bad server.
