Maria's Cantina & Cafe, Kingsford

Despite the previous reviews, Maria's is an excellent Mexican restaurant and the most authentic that you could get in the UP. Of course it will not be exactly like what you could find in Mexico, but it is no Taco Bell. The portions are great for the prices they have. They have no pool table, and they have a smaller dining room for weeknights and they open up the back room for extremely busy nights and Friday nights. No sense of having all that open space when you don't need it! The service is excellent and they have a great bar selection!

Poor Americanized - Mexican food. The atmosphere is that of a bar that added a restaraunt. I had high hopes that the area would finally get a decent Mexican eating establishment but this isn't it. Note to the cook - cumin and cilantro are essential flavors in Mexican cuisine - I've even tasted them in Taco Bell's food...

We were from out of town. We have a family of six, and we went to Maria's for dinner. The food was EXCELLENT, real Mexican food. Very fresh, authentic, salsa was great. Service staff was polite and very nice, restaurant was VERY CLEAN. We have a family of six and fed everyone for under $50, and all of our kids were satisfied with their food! We would recommend this restaurant to anyone who likes REAL homemade food. To please a whole family is quite hard to do! But Maria's restaurant was excellent. We can't say enough how good the food and staff were. We will definitely be going back when we are in town.

It was definetly not true mexican food at all. They have no idea what they are doing. It was fake mexican food made by americans, The rice didnt even look like rice, it was all black and burnt looking. The tamales were way too dry and no flavor. The burrito looked like something you could get at taco bell. And the guacamole looked like something out of a can if they even make it that way. I would not recommend it to anybody looking for true mexican food!
