I was told about this place and I finally found it and it was delicious. My husband is from PR and I m Italian and his mother showed me a few things but he said this is the closest he has tasted to his moms cooking since died. Everyone was very nice from other customers to waitress and the cook was very nice. He sent us for free some plantain thing stuffed with pork with a chicken sauce.. Incredible.. We had mofongo with roast pork and a grilled steak with onions, me and my husband shared and it was as he said. Like moms RIP Maria. We will be back.
First off, let me say that I am Puerto Rican, and I know what Puerto Rican food should taste like. This was horrible and bland. The pernil was tasteless, and the beans were so bland too, the worst I ve had. There are not many puerto rican restaurants in south florida, besides a delicious one that my husband and I went to in Homestead, and we wanted to give this one a try. We walked in and it was so dark, blue walls and black table cloths. The fact that the place was completely empty should have been red flags for us, but we wanted to at least stay and support since they were Puerto Rican. But not only was the food really bad, but the customer service was worse.
The owner got really angry that we said the food wasn t tasteful for us. He started cussing because he got so upset. We ended up leaving, had the food bagged and we gave it to a homeless person. If he d had a better attitude, we might have tried something else on the menu so that they could have the chance to redeem, but even the plantains were bad and not fully cooked. Don t be misled by other reviews, I am sure the owners or friends of the owers wrote em themselves. We wouldn t dare recommend this place to a friend.
My brother-in-law mentioned he found a new PUERTO RICAN restaurant, that is out of this world. My husband and myself go out to eat on the weekends, and are always looking for GREAT food. We decided to try Emilios, and LOVED it. My husband couldnt stop talking about it. Every time Friday comes around hes already saying I feel like eating MOFONGO. The minute we walked out he was calling my Dad to tell him how good the food was and that he needed to try it. The food is cooked fresh when ordered, so you need to not be in a hurry or you need to put in your order ahead of time. I can cook Puerto Rican food and consider myself a pretty good cook, so normally when we go out to eat we look for something different, but this place is soooo good, we still look forward to eating there. Its actually nice to be able to go out and enjoy typical Puerto Rican food and not have to be the one who cooks.
I can not believe how wonderful the food is in this place, I was so happy when I got there to see how clean and nice this place was but the food OMG it was delicious and the Mofongo was AMAZING... The girls were so nice and sweet and very attentive.. The prices were just right and again the food was to die for.. The Pasteles were so good and the alcapurrias were great, we bought a frozen dozen of each they were so good.. I heard so many great things about this place and they were all right, I LOVED IT.. Best Puerto Rican Food Around.. You have to go if you have not yet, we will support this business and pray for its continued success!!! Great Job...
I have been goin to this place for about 2 years now and I have seen so much growth and the food is amazing. It is unbelievable how many puerto ricans hate on their own people, I have been there eating at a table and the other table is taking about the cook being to young or the lights being too light.. lol.. that was funny when i heard that.. This place has been here almost 3yrs now, the only PR spot we got, nice and clean inside, good food, great mofongo so if any1 says anything about their mofongo they are hating because it is delicious and the reason why I have been going there for 2 yrs. The girls are nice the music is great and our PR flags on the wall are beautiful!!! I have been their when they have been slow or packed and they treat everyone great but its not Applebees so remember its a NY PR spot you act right you get treated right. I live right down the road and I go in all the time and sit in my spot by the window and enjoy my comida and I see how they are and how much the people enjoy their meals. Good For You Latin Cafe!! Going on 3 Yrs You Must Be Doing Something Right.. This Boricua believes and prays for you!!! God Bless and Keeping making me my MOFONGO ;-)
This is certainly not the best Puerto Rican food representation. I was there when they first opened the food was horrible, meat stew very tender but no taste at all, rice terrible, tasted old and cold. The alcapurrias very very greasy, and pasteles tasted rotten. The pork was good tasting, but that was it. They lack presentation, and found the dinner plastes pricey for what is served. I don't recommend this place at all.
