I have heard nothing but good things about the waterville location and I couldn't wait to try it when they put a location on Airport. We went the lady gave one guy the wrong order and then it took forever to get back to him and it wasn't that crowded. She then tries to charge him the extra amount for the burger she accidentally gave him. The mistake happens but it took forver and then she tried to blame him for it, he said I will have what she is happening in reference to another lady with us, and it wasn't the same things that she had. The manager tried to make excuses and not that we wanted to get anything out of it but after all that they should have at least given a discount, they weren't sympathetic and said people make mistakes, not realizing it wasn't the mistake that made us mad but the horrible way it was handled. I then get my bill which was also wrong, they finally fixed that and the lady at the bar was the only one trying to make up for it, she should be the manager. When the whole thing was said and done we were out of the office for an hour and half because of all of that. It was just opened but they should have trained these people better or hired people with some previous experience. If I ever go back again it will be a long long time from now.
We went to C&M this past Saturday night, sat at the bar. There was one person tending bar and the entire restaurant of about 150 people. SHE WAS WONDERFUL, but her apparent BALD HEADED manager (or should I say mis-manager) was useless. Talked to all his friends almost unpacked a cold six pack of beer and didn't lift a finger to help her.
The food was fair at best. Margaritas are sweet as a Jolly Rancher. Anyone who knows how to make a margaritas know you don't put sugar in them. I blame the owner for another lousy restaurant that will fold.
We won't go back, however, we did discover a FANTASTIC PLACE NEXT DOOR called Daily Grind, cocktails and live music. WONDERFUL PLACE.
I've only been to the one on Airport Hwy a few times but I think it's safe to say I LOVE this restaurant :) Their sandwiches are delicious and their homemade chips complement them very well! The decorations are fun and entertaining; I love the nautical theme and some of the art on the walls is fantastic, especially in the bathroom which I noticed was impeccably clean and actually very pretty. The staff were friendly and personable, and the environment is very comfortable and fun. It's a great place to take your family or get a few drinks with your friends. Even the regular customers there are super nice! All in all, I've never seen a restaurant get it so right. Good job, Chowers! (:
10 FRIDAY NIGHT DINERS CHOSE CHOWDERS. BIG MISTAKE.
THE SERVICE WAS INITIALLY WHAT WE WOULD EXPECT FROM A LOCAL RESTAURANT. DINNERS WERE OK...EXCEPT ONE OF OUR PARTY DIDN'T RECEIVE HIS DINNER UNTILL LONG AFTER EVERYONE ELSE HAD FINISHED EATING. THEN CAME THE WAIT FOR THE BILL. 1 HOUR WAS EXCESSIVE IN OUR BOOK.
THE FEW DRINKS WE HAD WERE WRITTEN OFF...ONCE THE MANAGER (I THINK) SHOWED UP.
WILL WE GO BACK...PROBABLY NOT.
I was shocked to see three poor reviews for this place so I had to chime in. I've been there four times. Never had a bad meal. No one I've eaten with has had a bad meal.
As far as the margarita gripe - who goes to a non-Mexican restaurant and gets a margarita?
As far as the ambiance gripe - seriously, if you spend time looking at walls then go to a museum. The decor made me feel like I was eating with Sponge Bob and I liked it.
As far as the price gripe - I can't relate; I lived in bigger cities most of my life so I feel like the place has good prices. If you want to pay less eat at McDonalds.
As far as the gripe about the staff - This may be the only point of contention. The management needs to get their hands around training staff and weeding out bad employees. But I have never encountered a bad waiter/waitress at Chowder's, just average ones.
I've tried to make this short, because unlike TOLReviewer, I have a life to get on with. But, I leave you with this - Chowders is an above average place for NW Ohio. Worth the trip.
