Basics any chef should know are not observed. Duck breast undercooked, skin not crisp. Wait staff was not attentive or really informed....first offer should have been a beer sampler. Very disappointed, I am a local who brought out of town guests. Know they loved the beer and the look. Food just okay, servers lacking - bus people are more attentive to customers than servers.
Just to inform you we had a truely disappointing meal last night at this restaurant
As we are not normally faced with this situation, In hindsight we should have sent our entrees back, instead of confusing the poor waitstaff who wondered why we did not want the large amount left on the plates boxed to go. When we discussed to cost of the meal in comparison to other establishments in the car on the way home it made us feel truly ripped off.
We chose from both the restaurant week menu and from the regular menu which gave us an overall feel for the food. Unfortunately you would think if you were trying to bring in new business with restaurant week you would put some of your tried and tested highlights for sampling - however the food of this menu was poorly executed and poorly presented. I had seafood pie, it was presented on its own in a dish with soggy unsavory pastry, the contents were not much better they were clearly frozen, fish, bay scallops and rubbery over cooked shrimp that was sitting in a watery white sauce. my husband had fish and chips from the regular menu although better presented one bite and it was in the same league soggy soggy soggy and clearly frozen fish that was again overcooked.
The wine pairings with the restaurant week menu worked well ( as best it could with lack luster food ) until the final course coconut panna cotta. The panna cotta itself had so little taste the port selected to accompany it way overpowered any flavor there was. The cookie that accompanied this could have done with being warm - however it didnt taste that good I have had better cookies from Shoprite!!!
The sliders for appetizers my husband had were the only good food of the night!!!!
For the cost of the meal just shy of $100 with only one person drinking wine I would have expected fresh food and well cooked. The quality was just not there. - We could not recommend this restaurant and actually feel that this was the worst restaurant experience in some years !!
We are thrilled to have Peekskill Brewery near us (Croton). They have an outstanding selection of beers on tap ranging from the more popular (Magic Hat #9) to the less familiar (their own Not-toberfest brew). Service is fast, friendly, and staff has good knowlege of the beers and food. As vegetarians, we wish they had a couple more options for us, but they've been happy to modify dishes like the rye bread appetizer to be meatless. Bar scene is lively and separate from the main restaurant. We couldn't get a table Friday night (our second visit in two weeks) at 7 p.m., and honestly were happy to see the wait - we hope this restaurant and brewery stays in business.
