Amigos Cantina

Description

We're anything but a typical Mexican restaurant ! Join YOUR Amigos and step into a small Mexican village where the people are friendly, the cuisine is delicious, and the Margarita's are STRONG. Amigos Cantina is the home to Kirkwoodac2s very own Robert Trevino. With roots in Monte Morelos, Mexico & San Antonio Texas, Chef Trevino has over 30 years of restaurant experience & now brings his unique skills to Kirkwoodac2s finest Mexican restaurant. 'Specialty dishes' such as his Marinated Fajitas, Mojo Shrimp & Roast Pork Carnitas are offered alongside more typical Mexican cuisine for those whose palette is less adventurous.

This is awesome mexican food!! Been all over St. Louis and surrounding area and this is just really fresh great stuff!!. The margaritas are incredible. The salsa could be spicier but I love habaneros so maybe it's fine for most peope. The waitresses/waiters are friendly and very knowledgeable. The bartenders both Angelo and the Mexican bartender are awesome and Roberto.....class act. Have never had a meal my family was unhappy with or temperature that was worth complaining about. Some people just think they are food critics and cant say anything nice.......I can't say anything bad!!!

Have been to Amigos three times. The two times I ate at the bar by myself, my food was delivered piping hot. The time that I sat in the main part of the restaurant with mi chica, her tacos were hot but my tamales were cold, just barely room temp. I had to reorder and they then brought me another plate of tamales that were warm at best. My advice, sit at the bar if you want your food to be consistantly hot. Chips were good and the salsa was nice and chunky. Tortillas soup was very delicious, but the poblano cream chicken soup was so so at best, nothing compared to Canyon Cafe's. The choriqueso was watery and bland, so I'm not sure what kind of sausage they use in it, not the kind of chorizo I find at authentic Mexican joints. Margaritas were bordering on weakness. A bit over-priced for the quality. The owner and the Mexican bartender are a blast to talk to, especially if a Mexican football game is on the tube.

Three visits - ate at the bar twice and enjoyed this location best for dining. The salsa is very good and sets the tone for any meal to follow. I find that ordering from the bar the entree appears very quickly and hot. I very much enjoy this restaurant. They do need a HD signal to go along with their flat screen TV.

Great food. Waiter explained specials and menu selections and gave recomendations. Service was excellent and Margs were great. Menu prices very reasonable, Will definately return. Downside, TV reception at bar terrible when we were there and difficult having a conversation due to noise level.

Service very poor, menu selections good, actual food quality terrible. Signature dishes were not great, served luke warm. Highly recommend NOT to go here if you are looking for good Mexican food. Disappointed and will not be back.

We had dinner here on 6-28-08, and it was very good. Reasonably priced (we had two beers, a margarita, appetizer, and two entrees for less than $40, including tip). The stuffed poblanos were teriffic, guacamole was chunky and flavorful, and the margarita was one of the best I've ever had. It was a little noisy, but we'll definitely go back. It's a VERY welcome change from the predictable food available in most other Kirkwood restaurants. Check it out...
