The Sunset Restaurant, Malibu

I just had my first experience with the Sunset Restaurant. Overall I would say average. I would rate a 2.5 if it allowed me to. It is set in a great location. Parking is Valet only unless you get lucky and find a spot along the beach (the charge is $4.50 for the first 2 hours, this becomes an issue later) Valet is not expensive....yet. After the first 2 hours you pay $10 for each half hour after that. Service was really the worst part of my whole experience. I would rate the service as a 1 out of 5. Upon being seated(had a reservation and they were not ready for me) my party as sat at a table with no water or any kind of refreshments. The waiter appears about 10 minutes later and finally asks if we want something to drink. About another 10-15 minutes goes by before we get basic water. Then we get left to sit and wait while we decide what we really want to drink about another 10 min. We were told we would get some bread as well. Again we wait for basic drinks...soda and house wine, 20 min (see where my comment abou the valet is headed) about an hour has gone by and I haven't even ordered appetizers. Do you see what I am saying about service, it never got any better. We had to flag the hostess for refills on drinks or bus boys. We had to flag the matre de or hostess to get our check and that kept running up the bill for valet. The service was extremely poor in my book. The one really positive thing here was the food. 5 out of 5.

The service was awesome, the food was a bit on the normal side. The staff was extremely helpful! Great place to propose or have a wedding. The view was remarkable from the second floor. My new Fiance and I shared a spectacular experience there. I proposed to her at 08/08/08 at 08:08 pm. The manager did exactly what I needed him to do to make it even more of a special night. Thanks Sunset restaurant for making it a wonderful experience.
