Pappy's makes no apologies. Their Memphis style barbecue, with the meat as the main attraction and the sauce as a perk, brings in meat mavericks from all over the city. Located near SLU's campus and frequented by famished students, Pappy's has become such a popular attraction that the kitchen sells out every night, so closing time varies. On weekends, don't risk waiting until the evening to get a fix because you may go home disappointed. With a reasonably priced menu and pure, uncut fully flavored meat by the platter or the pound, dieters need not even bother. Pappy's may be single-handedly responsible for the freshman 15 around these parts.
My last experience with Pappy s was not good the ribs were not cooked down to the bone the meat was raw not pink, raw, also the meat tasted grainy like old meat that had been in the freezer for a while. very disappointing the quality of the food has become ordinary, and restaurant needs cleaning.
My family and I have eaten at Pappy s Smokehouse numerous times, but yesterday my boyfriend and I found out the genuiness and kindness of the man behind the smokehouse. We unfortunately were involved in a motor vehicle accident while riding our Harley. Pappy saw our bike down and did not hestitate to stop and pull over to: first make sure we were okay, but then went the extra mile to get our bike up and traveled to his nearby house and brought his bike trailer to allow us to get our bike home. True kind people are more rare in these times and we are so very grateful for the blessing this man gave to us with no expectations attached. The rewards are so much larger from doing good and being giving and this man showed our family this yesterday. We just want to thank him and his riding partner for being the awesome people they are. His food is the best around but as we learned yesterday the man is even better. Truly a treasured surprise in a scary incident. THANK YOU!!!
We went to Pappy s this past Saturday evening based upon the recommendation of the food network. We were greatly disappointed. We arrived after 7 so they were out of all meat except the pulled pork. There were four of us, we all had pulled pork, two of us sandwiches, one super spud, and one platter. The pork was good but not spectacular. None of us could eat the slaw, it was soggy and all we could taste was vinegar. One of us got sweet potato fries, they were cold and soggy, the worst any of us ever had. I got the super spud that was loaded with pulled pork and baked beans. The beans were good as was the pork but this would have been much better if it were hot. The pork was barely warm and the potato was also. The beans were the only thing that were hot. The restaurant looked dirty, they have a large display of bb-q sauces that were covered with grease and dust and the bathroom was filthy. We will certainly not be going there again. There are many much better restaurants than this, I do not understand the great reviews.
Words cannot describe how good the food, service and atmosphere is at this restaurant. My wife and I saw this place on Man vs. Food and we were not disappointed. The lines is long, but WELL worth the wait. We were greeted by the owner when we arrived…nice touch! We ordered a platter and enjoyed everything. Try the ribs, pulled pork, pulled chicken and make sure to drink one of those local root beers. The fried corn on the cob is a unique draw as well. This place has raised the bar on BBQ for me and has left me comparing other places to Pappy’s, but honestly there is no comparison.
OMG, OMG, O....M...G....This is truly a religious experience! Love the atmosphere, kid friendly and not too long of a wait. The worst thing is that they don't offer a plate with a little of everything on it. Don't pass this place up!
AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I did not think anyone truly knew how to smoke ribs like my Dear Father, but Pappy's is such an amazing place. After our first visit we have been making it at least a weekly occurence. And, if you want healthy meats for lunchs I buy their smoked turkey, YUM!!!! I honestly cannot say enough about this place. I do hope they will be able to expand for if you get there at the wrong time, last Sat the line was 90 minutes which was the longest.. But, they are extremely accomodating as you are in line, giving you samples. LOVE THIS PLACE and the atmosphere is FUN & FRIENDLY. It truly seems that the employees love their job, they are all delightful. Keep up the wonderful smoking:-)
