I have lived in this area (Modesto) for six years now and have had a hard time finding a good restaurant that was not a run of the mill name brand chain establishment. If you are in the same rut, take the few extra minutes down 99 to the Canal Street Grill. It is well worth the trip. For the kids there are hamburgers on the menu. And for the adults, if you are looking for a romantic setting, great wine list, nice little bar, and an appetizing menu selection bring your spouse/girlfriend/partner here.
Pricing is comparable to Outback, Elephant Bar, Black Angus but the food is much better.
I had the prime rib dinner w/red potatoes and asparagus- $20.00. The prime rib was juicy, sliced thick and so well seasoned I did not need the broth or the horseradish. The asparagus was crisp and perfect. It was not mushy or raw. The potatoes were also good. I also ordered the bok choy on the side - yum.
I will definitely be returning soon.
