I been to Japan twice for biz- My impresion of Japan is the excellent quality, excellent service & attention to the smallest details. BUT NOT AT KOBE!
Very poor imitation of Japanese food. Over soy-saused steak, dried out rice, skimpy fish on the sushi. And even worse service. Rude-inattentive All they care about is pushing their over-priced drinks.
I have been a sushi lover for many years and was excited to see this place opened only to be dissapointed over countless visit's to this establishment. My family and I have been going to this place since it opened and it is a frustrating experience to say the least, we returned in hopes it would change but it continued to be the same, the wait staff barely speak any english and the sushi is second rate, the hibachi part is also just okay. My suggestion is to visit ONLY for the Happy Hour, Monday-Thursday 4:30-6pm, there is a later one as well, 9pm-? (FYI: go to evening one, dont go for lunch, its even worse then and it chef's choice, not yours) for specials on app's and Sushi and I would go later in the week for the better quality of the sushi. When or if you go to the Happy Hour get there early, first of all they will give you a regular menu and not give you any details as to if there actually is a Happy Hour going on, (even though they have a huge sign advertising the Happy hour on the building the staff act like its a 'new' thing you have discovered) you must also have to request the Happy hour menu, this is when their english seems to be even worse than before. They will also be slower than usual near the ending time of the Happy hour so they can charge you full price on the items rather than the Happy hour prices. (make sure you double check your bill, mistakes seem intentionally made for you to get charged full price) The service is terrible with an assumed language barrier (they either pretend to or act like 'english' is the second language in Plymouth) and the sushi for what it is priced at for Happy hour is almost worth the trip. My family has been frustrated now to a point where we do not visit them anymore, the last straw has the other week going in to order take out and they made us wait to order for ten minutes while they help someone on the phone, I assume that a walk-in customer in the restuarant would have some type of priority but it was not the case as well as us being regular customers for almost three years didn't seem to matter as well. If you do become a regular customer do not expect a warm welcome back greeting or for them to even recognize you, it seems like they just don't care if you are returning, you feel more like you are a burden to them. I would stay clear of this place and find the other countless great sushi places in surrounding areas. They will not be seeing us anymore and have lost our business, but I assume they dont care anyway.
Was at Kobe's last night for dinner, which was good. There was 10 of us and we spent a lot of money, but when the bill came and we hadn't even finished eating, they told us we would have to finish up, because there were people wating. The hostess even stood there with menus for the next group. Only had neen there an hour and 15 minutes.
Won't be going back there again. For the money we spent is not nice to be rushed out the door.
My husband, my 15yr old son,and 11yr old daughter visited Kobe for the first time last Christmas Eve when we were looking for a new experience. We love it better tham Benihana and it is more reasonabley priced and the staff very friendly. They know us now as we go at least every month. We have to put time limits on it or our kids would go every week. It is so hard for us to find a restaurant we all love.
We love the Hibachi but I like their sushi and appetizers too. Try it, you won't be disappointed.
Well, for starters it took nearly an hour to get our lunch. Two of us got our lunch about 10 minutes after the others with no apology or explanation from the waiter. The food was lukewarm. The udon was mediocre. The steak was inconsistant. The rice was hard. The shrimp was cold and chewy. The Philadelphia rolls we got as an appetizer were the worst I have ever had. Target makes a better Philadelphia roll.
We were so disappointed in the service we asked to speak with a manager. The explainations he gave for the delayed food service made no sense. One of the excuses given was the internet being down??? We finally got an apology from the manager and a $10 gift card, but we never plan to use it as we never plan to go there again.
Also, my friend who had the shrimp got sick.
I just experienced Kobe for the first time today, with my 2 children and a friend, who was kind enough to treat us for my birthday. However, before we went there I checked the reviews on this log, and there are a few things I disagree with... We had a reservation on a Saturday night and were seated immediately. We had several questions while making the reservation and while ordering. We found the staff to be friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. My kids really enjoyed the show, our chef was skillful and entertaining. We all thought the food was prepared to our expectations, even just a notch more. I usually eat my steak with pepper and was just about to ask for some until I had a bite of my filet mignon... it was absolutely perfect and didn't need anything to add to it at all. My picky little 10 year old son ordered the chicken and salmon off the adult menu. He ate every bite of it while repeatedly saying it was so awesome. His twin sister had the junior shrimp with a side of noodles (vs. the rice) and never quite got to the shrimp because the noodles were so indulgent. The waitress had also suggested a japenese soda for the kids (which I was mildly skepticle of due to them being so finicky) and they each had 2. It was kinda fun that they got to enjoy something out of the norm. Anyway, as far as the price goes, it was absolutely reasonable compared to other similar restaurants, including ones that don't have the entertainment value. Not to mention the amount of food.. the soup, the salad, the shrimp appetizer. It was really nice, the whole experience was very comfortable and satisfying. I hope that anyboby who's had a poor experience there would give them another try. I am looking forward to visiting this local establishment more often and hope that there are many others who agree to support this nice addition to Plymouth, MN.
ps: Just for the record... I DO work in the restaurant industry and therefore, I have high personal standards. However, I do NOT work for Kobe or anything affiliated.
