We had a very disappointing experience at Tokyo Japanese Cuisine on 57th & Louise. The waitress was very rude and acted as though she was put out with any request we made. We will not be visiting that location again or recommending it to our friends.

Been to both locations several times but yesterday I got the craving for Tokyo so bad I took the afternoon off and made the hour drive to get some. I travel a fair amount and make a point of trying different Japanese restaurants. It's my opinion that Tokyo in Sioux Falls is equal to or better than most. Reasonably priced too. Going back again this weekend for another fix. Yum.

I never expected to meet the real Japanese culture tradition here. I would dare to say that the best sashimi I have ever tried is here and we are not talking about Tokyo in Japan, right? Now I got caught by this restaurant and whenever I drive on highway 90, I try to stop by the Sioux Falls City just to enjoy that restaurant. Thanks, Alex and Svitlana.

Tokyo is fantastic. I lived on the west coast for a while and had a lot of sushi out there. When I moved back and ate at Sushi Masa, I was terribly disappointed. I didn't eat sushi for about a year. Now that there is a quality sushi restaurant in town I go all the time. Anyone who rates Sushi Masa as better than Tokyo either hasn't eaten sushi outside of Sioux Falls, or is convinced that just because the restaurant is downtown and isn't a chain, it MUST be good. The service at Tokyo cannot be beat, and I have never had a huge issue with the language barrier. Their staff is hard working and aims to please. Their food is the best and will not fall apart unlike their competitor on Phillips Ave. Their food is kept refrigerated, which helps. If you haven't eaten at Tokyo yet, you are missing out.

Dear Bob: Tokyo Japanese is GREAT! Yes, they do have trouble with English...how's your Japanese. I learned; you can too. If you want English spoken, try McDonald's.

I've eaten here about a dozen times and the food has always been good. The restaurant is very clean and the service is good also. A previous poster commented on the wait staff not speaking English well. I think that goes with the territory when eating ethnic food. I think it is often a sign of good ethnic restaurants actually. I consider it part of the atmosphere. I do think that Sushi Masa has a slight edge on Tokyo for the quality of their food though.

I absolutely adore this place. The food is terrific - I beg my husband to take me here all the time. They are great with kids as well, making suggestions of foods they'll try if sushi isn't their favorite thing. Be sure your kids try the Japanese sodas - they have several flavors from which to choose. My favorite menu item, lunch or supper: The Bento Box with sushi and sashimi.

5 stars, no doubt. We've had sushi from coast-to-coast in the U.S. and, although the mid-west sushi "inventory" for both Toyko and Sushi Masa are a little more restricted (we're from Los Angeles), Tokyo far excels in quality of both food and service (I cannot express enough how good their service is!) Tokyo has a large sushi bar and creative, thoughtful, sushi chefs. They remember whether you want wasabe or love caviar. They are cheerful and always full of surprises. Tokyo Sushi has more seating but is still an intimate environment. We'd go there 2-3 times each week if we could! I am tempted, but will not, compare the huge difference between Tokyo Sushi and Sushi Masa, but will say that we are so very glad that Sushi Masa is no longer the only game in town. Oh, there is one other exception here in the Dakotas, you are not allowed to buy a beer for the sushi chefs like we could in Southern Calif. They certainly deserve the treat! OK, a nice tip will have to do.

I would give this establishment a lower score but because of the language barrier I don't think they would understand. I love Oriental style food, but if you can't understand the waite staff, how can they understand you? Food wasn't bad, wasn't great either. Price was an concern also. This place is new and shows potential to become great. I will give them a few months then return for another try.
