While this place might be fine dining for a couple do not use them for an event with several people. Despite prior arrangements this place really disappointed us. The wait staff did a good job but the kitchen was unprepared and the service was so slow I was afraid I would have to order birthday cake for desert. Despite the wait some food items came out cold. Perhaps a great place for a twosome, but if the group is very large avoid this and choose one of the other restaurants on the waterfront.
This place is a gem! Unique and delicious fare. My fiance and I wandered into this place on our way back up from Charleston. What a welcome surprise after having to fight the crowds of tourists to sit in a crowded restaurant to eat plain food and get overcharged for the pleasure. The Goat Island Grill is a treasure: Extremely considerate and friendly staff, view of the river, Relaxed yet sophisticated environs, decent price (about the same prices as you would find at a chain restaurant like Chili's), and the food: There are old favourites for those who might be a little less adventurous but for the inquisitive there are treats such as onion encrusted salmon fillet with Asian mustard and locally caught grouper with an amaretto creme sauce over a bed of wild rice and nuts. I have dined in Rome, Florence, Chicago, Seattle, London and Savannah and I can honestly say I have *never* enjoyed finer nor more delicious cuisine than what I found at the Goat Island Grill. I only wish I lived closer.
Ok well let me start off by saying that Goat Island Grill is a nice place. The staff was friendly and courteous. We decided to eat there during lunch time. Being such a beautiful day we decided to eat outside. That was our first mistake. Out side dinning there was not something that i would ever do again. The food was ok. The lunch menu that did not offer a lot. So if you have picky teenagers or significant others not a good idea to eat there. The only other thing that i did not like was the fact that outside is the freezer and we got to see the cook digging around for frozen food.
Now after all that has been said. Would i give them another try? Yes. I will go back there for dinner and see how the dinner menu is.
Intimate main street eatery with a friendly atmosphere and adequate food at a fair price. Small bar in the back with an outdoor dining area overlooking the harbor. Beats the more well known Gtown restaurants by a mile. Open Sundays which is unusual for this historic little town.
