I'd tried this place recently and it was just awful. The spicy tuna was liquid mush that would pour out of he maki pieces when we picked them up, and everything we'd ordered smelled a little off. This is really not a risk that you can take with sushi. I go to area sushi bars at least once a month and had never gotten anything this bad anywhere else. It was so unappetizing that it was inedible.
There are so many other options; even supermarket sushi would be a much better Idea.
My family went to Umai yesterday and food was amazing. Their service was very good and their Umai roll was absolutely delicious. The crazy roll they served was absolutely crazy!! Their service aims to please their customers and our family had a great time.
Well my wife and I read some of the recent reviews of Umai and decided to try it this past Saturday 3/21/09. We were absolutely blown away by the dining experience!
We sat at the Sushi Bar and quickly struck up a friendly conversation with the 2 Chefs. From the Appetizer to the Main Course ...different options and custom off-menu items were suggested to us to try.....Each one was very unique, tasty and was beautifully presented!
We are used to Tokyo in Skippack, Nector in Devon etc...and we will definitely be heading back to Umai very soon!
My wife and I are admitted sushi snobs, and have eaten here at least 10 times in the past 3 months. We have tried other sushi places, but Umai delivers on all fronts: Quality, service, creativity, price. We were hooked on our first visit. Ray is a master sushi chef, and unbelievably creative, kind and generous. His sidekick, chef Paul, is hilarious. They both aim to please, and are very open to suggestions. Service is friendly, efficient, and they know the menu very well to help walk you through any questions. Without a doubt, this is the best suburban sushi there is, and we have been to a lot of other places on our quest for good sushi. The freshness and quality are sometimes puzzlingly good. The white tuna is my favorite, and the tuna tacos and crazy roll are a must try, along with oyster shooters if they have them.
Can't wait to go back. J&C.
All I have to say is Oh My, Umai is fabulous! The food was exceptional, the service was fantasic! This is my new favorite place and I can't wait to tell everyone about it. We had the umai roll, tuna sundae, and the crazy roll (ask your server it's not on the menu). Afterwards the owner made us some specialty drinks on the house. I am glad we finally have a great sushi restaurant in the area.
My boyfriend and I used to live in the Station Square apartments and we both waiting patiently for Umai to open. Once it did, we were hooked. I can safely say it's our very favorite sushi place... ever. The staff is friendly, and accomodating and the food is nothing short of absolutely stellar. Everytime we go, I try something new, and I always walk away from the experience with every intention of coming again.
Umai is a must try for any sushi lover -
the atmosphere, the staff, the food...
