When we got our bill, I paid with my credit card. After paying, they said that the credit card didn't go through and they asked for my credit card again. When I got home, I found out that they had run the credit card through twice and both charges were on my bill!!!!!!
The manager, I found out his name by checking online, Chris Mitchell, was not very friendly. He seemed rude to the customers. The food was not very good. I went there to eat. I mean EAT. But after just one small serving I didn't feel like eating any more. The food overall wasn't very tasty. It reminded me me of the food at the Ala Moana food court. Just passable. There were no crab legs which really bummed me out. False advertising. The picture in the ad showed crab legs but there weren't any. I even check several times just to be sure but lo and behold, none. I didn't think that the price was good. In fact, the price had gone way up compared to about a year or two ago. The price went up but the quality went waaaay down. I wouldn't recommend this restaurant to anyone. Needless to say, I will not be coming back.
Makino Chaya is a incredible restaurant and i highly recommend it for everybody, not only the food is good but the service is quick and easy. Makino Chaya is also very cheap and the atmosphere is very authentic.
They also treat seniors very nicely. The manager is courteous and very respectful. Makino Chaya is perfect for birthdays especially if you like authentic japanese food.
On Sept. 5th, 2008, my mother and her friend arrived at 11am to get a good seat but were told to return at 11:45am. They came back at that time and were taken to the very back of the restaurant to be seated. My mom requested a seat that was closer to the buffet near the front and the manager told her no. Then my mother asked for another seat that was nearby that first table, and instead of politely being given other options, she was humiliated and told to leave because he didn't want to serve them. The manager was rude and unprofessional and treated my mother, who is in her mid-70's as if she were a criminal! If that's how managers are being trained to treat their customers... then they need to go back to old school where 'respect and courtesy' should be their main objective. We are not happy about this horrible treatment and wouldn't recommend going to this particular restaurant until they show more respect to good customers!
I have to say that Makino Chaya is totally worth what you're paying for. You pay one price for anything you want on the menu. Not just one item, but ANYTHING. You must try the cow tongue it's very tasty. The one thing about this place is the service is horrible because it's always full and we had to wait FOREVER to get our grill thing for the cow tongue. They also have sushi which makes the price you're paying even better. If you don't mind the wait, come here if you're really hungry.
