Praça Da República is a large square a short distance northwest of Anhangabau in Sao Paulo. On Sundays, it is transformed into a lively open-air market with a special emphasis on paintings, gemstones, crafts and coins. The area north of the square is now popular with the gay community while south of the square, one can find hotels, large office buildings and prestigious apartment buildings of Sao Paulo's past.
