Description
The Museu de Arte Sacra or Museum of Sacred Art was created in 1970 through a collaboration between the Sao Paulo State Government and the Archdiocese of Sao Paulo. It is one of the main Brazilian institutes that is dedicated to the study, conservation and exposition of objects related to sacred art. It is located in the left wing of the Monastery of Light (Mosteiro da Luz), the only colonial building from the 18th century in Sao Paulo with original structure and elements that have been preserved. The Museum contains religious objects from old churches from all over the country, made by both Brazilians and foreigners, and with an emphasis on art produced from the 16th century on.
