This is the most fantastic restaurant in Delaware! A true gem, in a strip mall! I went there for our wedding rehersal dinner and will go back there every year (and more). The manager Tom is exceptional, Phil, the waiter we had, was fantastic. Please ask for them! They have such a variety of imported beers to choose from (Hubby is from England, made his night). The food, i can even begin to tell you how wonderful it is, so flavorful, delicious, beyond compare! Please go, you will not regret it!
Having been on vacation for nearly a week and having the urge for a juicy steak,I asked a local as to where i can get a good steak.
1776 was the locals response.
I made a reservation and was shocked to find it located in a strip mall but dont let this put you off.
Once inside a wonderful restaurant awaits you.
Myself and my partner were overwhelmed not only by the friendly professional service but the food was outstanding.I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone. The staff are friendly and attentive.and the food is excellent.
Went last night on a recommendation from the folks we rented a house from. We were greeted promptly and taken to our seats, the server brought out a tray highlighting their selection of cuts and was quite impressive. Unfortunately, that was the last time I was impressed. I ordered the $35 12oz NY Strip and the steak that came out on my plate was in no way an accurate representation of the steak on the tray. It was small and flat (honestly, it was as thick as my butter knife). I couldn't get too upset that it was overcooked, a steak that thin couldn't even be properly cooked to my medium rare order. Server also bragged about the redskin mashed potatoes, I ordered, then they were out.
The wine selection and appetizer (black ravioli) was good (not great). Service was OK, we were delivered our steaks without knives and had to wait easily over a minute to get them.
Overall greatly disappointed (mainly b/c of the steak) and will NEVER return. It's obvious they know how to put a menu and website together but buyer beware, I could've got the same steak at Ruby Tuesday. At least there wasn't sales tax so I didn't have to pay the government as well for my crap meal too...
My wife and I ate at the 1776 Restaurant less than two weeks ago. The service and restaurant decor were very good, but the food was excellent. It is a hidden gem, located in a drab stripmall. We loved it so much, I stayed an extra day in Lewes just so I could have dinner again with my wife in 1776 the next night! Just think of crab-stuffed scallops (a special) and filet mignon with crab cake. I am. That's why I plan to drive up from our Fenwick Island vacation this weekend with my family to have dinner again. Too bad we live 2-1/2 hours away.
My husband and I ate at the 1776 steakhouse on valentines Day for lunch. The ambiance was great and very cozy. We were able to order off the dinner and had the best meal. We started with the baked Brie and Caesar Salad with homemade dressing. The Brie was delicious with the flaky pastry and the raspberry champagne reduction was the perfect complement. My husband had the barrel steak. He said that it was the best steak he has had. It was cooked nicely and it was seasoned to perfection. I had the Chicken Sophia which was melt in your mouth wonderful. To finish it off we had the apple tart and it was the perfect ending to a magnificent meal. We can't wait to go back.
went to 1776 on a rainy friday night and was pleased with what i found. when we arrived the place was kinda busy but we were seated right away. i orded a barell and my wife ordered a salmon --both were very good. the service was tops and the place looked good
Tried the newly reopened and owned SteakPlace. Worst Steak I ever had. Needed a saw to cut it.(Special Delmontico) Sorry...but true. My husband's steak, the filet was ok. Was puzzled as to why the fireplace was placed NEXT to the kitchen door? Not the best seat for atmosphere. Very small bar that we waited at, and the Tavern Door opened right into it and it was freezing each time it was opened. Not going back. Expected much more.
