The Garcia brothers started in the restaurant business almost 30 years ago with the original Latin American Restaurant & Cafeteria. By managing and opening those restaurants, they gained a tremendous amount of knowledge and unique experience in the Cuban restaurant industry. In a few years they quadrupled the size of the company. They decided to branch out and bought and successfully ran a restaurant in Coconut Grove until it was sold. Parting ways, Lazaro joined the original group of Pollo Tropical and opened the first location in 1988. Jose joined with the Valls Group and opened Pollo Dorado restaurants. After competing with each other for a few years, Jose came on board with Pollo Tropical. With Lazaro as Chief Operating Officer and Jose as Director of Operations, the chain saw incredible growth in the South Florida market. After five years, the company went public, and they opened 25 restaurants within one year. After eight years with Pollo Tropical and opening over 55 stores, the brothers formed a partnership in Sergioac2s Restaurant and again more than quadrupled revenues by opening more restaurants and increasing sales. They brought the concept of Owner-Operator to Sergioac2s Restaurant. This was and is a main contribution to their success. Their team of Owner-Operators have successfully and faithfully followed them for over 18 years.
