The Refinery - Tampa
Greg Baker and the Refinery staff are committed to utilizing as much as possible from local farmers and suppliers who do it right. Sustainably and ethically right. Then we refine this already beautiful product into something even more amazing and we change it up every week. We use chipped plates, jailhouse silverware, mason jars and we have a Jackalope in our dining room. Come eat, drink and confabulate.
In defense of my business, reviews listed prior to March of 2010 are for a restaurant that existed at the same address prior to The Refinery. As of writing this, none of the reviews are applicable to The Refinery.
We love to dine out and must say that this was one of the worst places that we have tried!! First course was a French onion soup that was absolutely salty and no broiled cheese on top of a crouton. We then decided to try the hummus platter known as the Mezza plate on the menu and by far the worst hummus trilogy we have had. My husband had the feature of the evening and it was a New York steak that was overcooked in which our waiter gladly replaced and took almost 30 minutes to bring back to the table. I had a seafood dish that consisted of Tilapia, calamari, shrimp, and mussels in which the mussels never made it to the plate!! The restaurant had no dessert choices that evening which was probably a good thing!!!!! My advice would be to by pass this restaurant want to be and go down to Ellas right around the corner in which we did! We suggest that the owner close the restaurant and get into a field they enjoy!
Food and service was great! Several friends told us how great the place was before we finally tried it out for the first time in mid-February and wished we had tried it earlier. Very clean and comfortable atmosphere and the quality of the food, especially considering the low prices, was phenomenal. We are taking both sets of parents tonight to share the experience. As far as portion sizes, it's true...it's not Outback so don't expect 3000 calorie appetizers and even bigger meals. Expect properly sized meals. I'm over 200 pounds and can eat my way through a cow and it didn't leave me hungry.
The service was really bad. The servers are just hippie kids, not real servers. The food portions are sized for little old lady's not men. Just so you guy's know. It was also very hot in the dinning room. I tried it three times and it's for blue-hairs, not real working people. The best thing I had was the Stuffed Crab Portabella Mushroom. Oh, and the salad dressing, well don't even bother. On a Sunday you'll have to wait over an hour for your food. Only one bathroom, so you have to share Men and Women. NO STARS for BB. Be ware!!!
This is the newest restaurant in Seminole Heights. I like the concept of fresh foods and a simple menu. I was looking forwaqrd to brunch on Sunday but the breakfast portions are REALLY small. Lunch is pretty good for sandwiches and salad fare. The dessert menu is very limited.
