Basso Cafe, Norwalk

I was really excited to take my sister to Basso as I had been there on numerous occasions; however, on the night of our reservation, I was sorely disappointed and enraged at how we were treated. The waitress ignored our table repeatedly and when she did pay attention to us,she interrupted us repeatedly while we were talking to her. When my sister asked if there was a problem, the owner’s wife and the waitress were extremely rude. Our dishes stayed on the table the entire time; we finally had to ask someone else if he could remove the dishes, which he did with a great show of displeasure. We were never offered bread nor asked if we were ready to order. When we finally got to dessert, which happens to be one of my favorite items there, we asked the check and left because I was disgusted and my sister was close to tears. Then, while we were saying goodbye to each other in the parking area, the waitress came out and was very passive aggressive and loud as she got on the phone and started talking to someone complaining about our table and how we were there only an hour (we had movie reservations and needed to leave and frankly, with the service we recieved we saw no reason to stay) and how we didn't tip enough. The dessert maybe great but it is not worth being treated so poorly. This is the worst service I have ever received in a restaurant.

My experience at Basso Cafe was great! The atmosphere was great and the food was awesome(definitely try the scallops for an appetizer and tres leches for desert!). The service= A+ Food= A I would definitely go back.

This restaurant is a wonderful discovery. Owner/chef is a former sous-chef at Barcelona. Menu is a wonderful mix of mostly Mediterranean and Italian together with a spattering of Venezuelan-influenced dishes.... all excellently prepared with great presentation. The specials menu is as extensive as the regular menu... and changes often with new inventive dishes. Service is knowledgeable and friendly, but not obtrusive. Everything on the menu is made in house, including the desserts. BYOB corkage fee is reasonable... $6 for first bottle. $10 for 2 or more. Highly recommended.

Awesome. As a forty year business owner in Norwalk, I wasn't expecting much from this restaurant. Wow, was I wrong. I had a party of ten and everything was perfect, especially the food. The chef/owner, Renato, really knows what he is doing.

Basso Cafe is my favorite restaurant. The food is out of this world, the atmosphere is inviting, and the chef is soo cute!

My wife & I live in the neighborhood and wanted a last-minute BYOB one recent Thursday evening. There was no issue getting a reservation, even though the restaurant was completely full. Service was attentive, but not intrusive. We shared the calamari appetizer. My wife ate every last piece of food & couscous from her blue crab. I thoroughly enjoyed the steak and have been raving about it ever since...the best I've ever had. We will definitely return and would highly recommend you do too.

Basso Café decor is inviting and comfortable. The food is delicious! Loved it all from the bread with the olive oil & herbs, the amazing fusion appetizers. Main course included the best lamb (rack and leg) I ever had. My dining experience ended with a great moist and caramelized cake. Great Coffee. A brilliantly flavorful experience. Perfectly complimented by the great service! Convenient BYOB! Betsy Williams

Had lunch there. Everything was great, staff super friendly. Chicken salad arepas are to die for. Highly Recommend !!
