my boyfriend and I went here for lunch and we had our hopes up high due to all the great reviews given. We love italian food and macaroni grille is usually our favorite but due to their menu changes that we dont like we have been trying to find a new place. We decided to give tuscany. I got the tilapia shrimp fettucini alfredo and my boyfriend got their baked pasta sampler with the spagetti and meatballs, cheese ravioli, and eggplant parmesan. First off my tilapia was so fishy that as soon as she set it down i could smell it, and it was terrible. My fettucini wasnt bad but it just tasted like something i can make out of a box from home. My boyfriends however, the raviolis were ok but not great def frozen bc they were tough, the spagetti was so overcooked and were so soggy they had to be just sitting in water for a coulple of hours, the meatballs were definently frozen, they tasted like it and were tough, and lastly the eggplant was unedible, it was borderline rotting in the middle.
I would never recommend anyone to this restaurant. It was terrible and the staff acted as if they didnt want to be there either. We payed 30 dollars for 2 people and had to got eat after we left. THIS PLACE IS HORRIFIC!
I eat here at least once a month and the service and menu items are consistently very good. They have a homemade Ranch dressing that is excellent and the salad is always crisp and cold. My favorite items are the white cream sauce ones. I would have to say that for some people they may be a little on the heavy/rich side though. I happen to like them that way so it is no problem for me. They make a really great calzone. I usually have the meat combo one but they also have a Mexican influenced one with Jalapenos. I know. It sounds strange but it's good. I also particularly enjoy the carbonara. The lemon drop cheescake is a great dessert that we usually take home for later since we are too full to eat it after the meal. It is creamy and not excessively dense with a nice lemon tang to it. The menu is actually quite extensive with seafood, chicken, beef, veal and vegetable oriented entrees and they also have a nice wine list. The place is so unassuming on the exterior that you are really not prepared for the extensive choices available. They will also try to accomodate dietary restriction if possible and have also been known to make custom additons to menu items. They have lunch specials until 2:30 that are the same portions as dinner but for a smaller price and all meals come with complimentary breadsticks and marinara dip. They seem to serve a pretty stout mixed drink from the bar too.
The atmosphere is relaxed and comfortable with white tablecloths, and a mix of booths and tables with individual pendant lights over each booth making for a cozy, neighborhood feel. The atmosphere is a cut above anything in the south- and southwest-end of Louisville that isn't a franchise but without the frequent pretention that comes with a nice atmosphere. It has a relaxed atmosphere similar to Cheddar's but without the crowd and corporate owned-and-operated feel.
A wheelchair can get through the door and to a table but I am not sure about the restroom facilities. You may want to call ahead if concerned. It can be a little difficult to find since it is tucked back into the corner of a shopping center next to the Super Walmart on the Outer Loop near New Cut Rd. If you have been to the Cheddar's on the Outer Loop and not been to Tuscany, I encourage you to give it a try. Just continue south on the Outer Loop for another 3 of so miles, about 5 minutes, and turn right at the first light past the Walmart. The shopping center is on your left and Tuscany is in the corner.
The fact that is a locally operated business should be reason enough to give it a try. Don''t get me wrong. I like franchise places for their consistency and reliability when you find an item you like, especially when you are in a strange town looking for at least one good meal at the end of the day. But we all always ask the locals if there is one special place in town where they go for a quality meal in a relaxed, pleasant atmosphere. Tuscany is one of those places.
Excellent food and service. Everyone was extremely nice and I didn't have to wait very long to be seated or to get my food. The food tasted wonderful! They have something for everyone... and it is reasonably priced!
