I just heard on the radio yesterday that another one opened up on Charleston & Rainbow (it has nothing to do with the one in Henderson). Can anyone confirm this?? Driving to Henderson is really far from NLV, but since I am from Detroit, I'm willing to take the drive, even if the gas prices suck. There is no hot dog like Coney Island. YEAH!! Detroit is in da house!!
Went to this establishment for the first time today after it was suggested to me by a colleague. I ordered a coney dog and a Vernors. It was like eating a little slice of heaven. The chili was just right and the hot dog itself had that satisfying snap that I've missed. The service was very cordial and quick. The prices, though higher than a hot dog at a gas station, was not bad in relation to what I received. I highly recommend them and we will definitely be returning.
couple of yrs ago, took my youngest back to detroit with me. i thought he would fall n love with white castle. NOT. stopped at lafayette coney and he fell in love with the coney dogs. for the next 2 days left in detroit that was all he wanted to eat. so when i heard they had a detroit style coney in the vegas/ henderson area, i drove from the spring mtn/ decauter area to buy some coney's. aw man. the walls and memoribilia just made you homesick immediately. the vernors sign, tiger stadium, red wings. woodward ave and j.l hudson. it's detroit in the house. i grew up downriver(ecorse) and one night a bunch of us rode our bikes to belle isle and on the way back home, we stopped at lafayette coney. great back in the 70's when the munchies hit. if you know what i mean smile. you can also go on line and buy the meat by it self. my wife read about the mtr city coney and wants me to take her there for mothers day. no s---t. she almost went postal on me when i told her i had been there before and bought some coneys for me and our son. almost a yr ago and she didn't even know it. what would really top everything off, would be some cold stroah's beer and stroahsice cream like tiger stadium used to have. can u say 'DETROIT IN THE HOUSE'.
My wife and I heard the advertisement for this place on the radio last month, and we just had to check it out; we're both from the Thumb, just a few minutes away from the D, and miss all the good food. When we walked in, it was like walking into a dream; with all of the home town sports memorabilia, newspaper articles from the Freep, and the pictures, it was like we had just walked into the local Coney shop back home. Just the sight of a cooler full of Faygo Pop, BetterMade chips, and the smells of real Coneys have made us both dedicated patrons. The food was great, the service excellent and friendly, and has made us both realize that a lot of restaurants in the Vegas/Henderson area could take a lesson from the folks here on what customer service truly is. We'll be back, at least once a month, and especially on 3/31/2011, when the owner is having a Tigers/Yankees viewing party to kick off the new season of Baseball...
I dont know what everyone else is ranting about but we went when they first opened and walked away highly disappointed. The hot dogs were merely farmer john dogs and the chili tasted much like denisons chili. They must have done a major upgrade because im quite surprised they stayed in business this long. Do yourself a favor and go down the road to Hot dog Heaven....if your gonna shell out good money for an over priced hot dog it might as well be somewhat decent.
I've lived in Henderson for 28 years...and I have to learn about this place from a friend of mine from Detroit who came to visit for the very first time. He said he found out about from an ad in the Detroit Free Press. Why not advertise here....I'd certainly go check it out if I knew about it. I've never seen a single ad...and he had to tell me where the place was at. He said the food was good, but I bet half if not more of the Detroiters now living here dont even know this place exists.
