Marie Laveau's House of Voodoo
In the heart of the French Quarter, this voodoo shop doubles as a shrine to the famous Voodoo Queen, Marie Laveau of New Orleans. Psychic readings, voodoo dolls, statues and altars are the real thing, not found in other touristy spots. Whether you come to the Big Easy for business or pleasure, you can find an original souvenir and even learn a little something of the black arts from around the world at Marie Laveau's House of Voodoo.
All I can say is it would be nice if this store lightened up a bit. I'm sure not everyone that browses in this store is serious about or knowledgeable of voodoo and I am sure with all the tourist, most people are just curious and should be allowed that opportunity. Asked the girl for a book which might be something like a "voodoo for dummies type" book, i.e. just for some general type information on voodoo and she acted very offended, referred me to a more "tourist type" voodoo shop down the street, said they sold things that had to deal with the not "real type" of voodoo, and generally made me feel like I had no right to buy anything in their store because I wasn't into "real voodoo." Anyway, I did take my business elsewhere. I'm sure they won't feel that affect of that, but not a friendly or helpful store at all. Maybe they are if you know what you are talking about. Then, my daughter briefly sat on their front step while we adjusted some bags and they rushed right out to tell us we had to keep the steps clear. Sucky staff in my opinion.
After reading the reviews, I had to see Phillip to complete my Spring Break in New Orleans. OMG he was so feeling me. He told me things that only I knew. He told me that my dauther was getting engaged - she did - he told me past events in my life, he also told me that my high school boyfriend and I would be getting back together - he had no idea that I was holding a torch for an old boyfriend - He and I are now speaking and it's great - WOW - and he said that we would get married in three years (I'll keep you posted).
Seeing Phillip is well woth his fee. My life has changed all for the better.
Phillip is absolutely amazing! Very accurate and specific on my reading and the reading of my friends that were with me. I am amazed at how good he was. Also, the other ladies working in the store were very friendly and very knowledgable. Great place!
I am a sceptic and went for a reading just as a way of sampling some of New Orleans's culture. Little did I know that my ideas on psychics would change for ever once I've met Phil. The girl behind the counter was exhuding some strange vibes and clearly didn't like me. I made an offering on Marie Laveau's altar hoping to stop the piecing look of the girl behind the counter. I felt uncomfortable entering the reading room (almost suffocating by some heavy smell) and Phil's body language was full of nervous energy. I felt like making a run for it but decided to stick it out for the sake of completing my cultural awareness of New Orleans. Then Phil started feeling my palm and telling me things about my life that not even friends know. One accurate comment after the other left me so dumbfounded that when he asked me if I had any questions my mind was so in shock I couldn't think of any.. Too bad all the questions about my life came pouring in later. I guess I'll have to visit him again.. It is scary to think that I may be becoming a believer
this is one palce I will Always visit in New Orleans.Once you ahve been here you wil never be the same, even now writing this I feel the Power and spirit of Marie with me. This is a spiritual place that connects with those who are open to its energy. Even my children ask for trinkets from this shop when we are in New Orleans the energy that is transferred fom the items we bring back is felt by those who do not understand. The staff is friendly and are not pushy. Go in look around, and bring the spirit of New Orleans home with you.
You MUST have your palm read by Phil. My friend and I have been 3 years and this October will be our 4th. Our trip is always initiated by our readings from Phil. He is the best. Can't wait to see him in a few weeks
I just came back from New Orleans and got a palm and tarot card reading done by Reese at Marie Laveau's House of Voodoo. It was an experience I'll never forget - he is awesome! When your in New Orleans, skeptic or not, you must stop in and get a reading done!!!!
