Lillian's Italian Kitchen
Lillian's Italian Kitchen opened quietly on July 4, 2007. It's a joint venture of the owners, Joe and Charlotte Moreno and their sons Chris and Matt. Chris, who has worked in the restaurant business for the last nine years, runs the kitchen and Matt manages the business end of things. Joe oversees it all. Natives of Santa Cruz with deep roots in the Italian-American community, the Moreno's dream was to open a neighborhood place that was an extension of their family kitchen. The inspiration was Grandma Lilly's wonderful home cooking. Lillian was devoted to family and friends and her life was greatly fulfilled by her love and passion for cooking. Born in Yonkers, New York, Lillian was able to combine traditional Sicilian recipes learned from her parents and the many Italian influences in her neighborhood.
Wish I could have tasted the great food. It smelled really great while waiting outside for one hour and 15 minutes. They don't take reservations. Didn't find out until tonight that we could have called in. We got tired of waiting and left. Maybe next time. I can't really rate the food since I didn't taste it, or the service.
Great food and service! Called in advance and Joe put us on the half hour wait list, arrived and we were immediately seated at our table.
Jackie took good care of us by making outstanding recommendations of the Osso Bocco (the lamb fell off the bone) and the Gorgonzola Cream on linquine was magnifico! Chef Chris is to be commended! The sugggested wine selection offered the perfect pairing.
Next time we will save room for one of their delicious looking desserts.
The ambiance is neighborly and pleasant. Lillian's will be the place we take our from out of town guests to enjoy great Italian food.
This restaurant was soo good I recommend it to everyone. It wasn't expensive at all and I tried 3 dishes, lasagne, gorgonzola cream pasta, and the pesto with chicken. My friend ordered the lasagna and tried the gorgonzola cream so she ordered that to take home for dinner. If you like tasty Italian food and are on budget this is the place to go.
THIS IS A SMALL RESTURANT RUN BY A HUSBAND AND WIFE, THE FOOD IS EXCELLENT,SERVICE WONDERFUL,ATMOSPHERE WAS QUAINT. I RECOMMEND THIS RESTURANT IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR AUTHENTIC ITALIAN FOOD YOU WONT BE DISAPOINTED
Food is good, but unless you like to eat with people standing around you or seated shoulder to shoulder with other patrons-I do not recommend it.Wait staff friendly but do not bother to make any kind of special request(like no red peppers on your sandwich-of which I got a PILE of them)they cannot seem to follow through with any requests.Extremely noisy from the kitchen-dishes rattling and the like.
Lillians is a blessing! The best sicilian food I've had from a restaurant; the staff is always nice and on top of things. The place is cute and warm and they now serve vino. I haven't had anything I didn't like, but definately always get the dinner salad with creamy pesto dressing - sooo good!! Also try the Sunday Gravy WITH meatballs for a plate. Mmm..
