We were looking for a place to celebrate a friend's birthday dinner and we settled on the Oak House after reading several reviews online. The place was pretty small but was very nicely decorated: it felt upscale and romantic. It was not busy, but that led to a much more intimate experience with the waiter, who I think was the owner as well. We were given the filipino menu and ordered the shanghi lumpia and 2 soups for starters, Tinolang Manok and Sinigang na Hipon. Both soups were very good and were liked by all, but I think the Sinigang na Hipon was the more-liked of the two.
The highlight of the night were the entrees. We ordered a ton of entrees, served family style: Crispy Pata, Bistek Tagalog, Mechado, Wrapped Salmon, and Sotanghon. The Crispy Pata was the best pork dish I've had in a long time: it's basically one huge piece of pork that you pry off in pieces and dip in its sauce - not too dry and the skin was awesome! The salmon was cooked in paper, very similar to other Chinese dishes and tasted great. I thought that the Sotanghon was nothing special, but the Bistek Tagalog and Mechado were very good, they had a ton of flavor and were very juicy.
It is a little pricey, but in the end, the food, environment, and the great service makes this a great value and I would definitely go back!
This location used to be home of a good Indian restaurant. The remodel came out very nice and is a definite improvement. The food was very much like a Roy's but not quite as perfected, which I imagine will improve over time. The spare ribs were very dry but the flavor was good. The salad (fruit dressing) was very good but the noodle dish was awful as the noodles brittle from being over fried I guess. The duck was good but some parts were tough. The sea bass was the best dish. The dessert was a mix of three ice creams which tasted a little old, freezer burned, and basically just store bought...nothing special. I think the restaurant has a good theme and maybe we just hit it on a bad night.
