So popular on Kauai for so long, Puka Dog has crossed the channel and found a new home along Kuhio Avenue in Waikiki. The cylindrical pocketed hot dogs are bathed in dreamy tropical flavored condiments that go well with Maui style chips and a cool cold drink. The dogs are high quality polish, veggie, or spiced for the bold or shy. The shop is cheery and whimsical with a style very reminiscent of North Shore Oahu. It's easy to find and the staff are bright, happy and quick. There is a small seating area, but the recommendation is to order it to go and wander the block and enjoy yours in the sun on the sand on one of the best beaches in the world. - Lottie Tagupa
I went to Puka Dog's after hearing about it from my parents, who heard it from the Food Channel. I have to say, it was pretty damn good. I had the sausage hot dog with mango/garlic relish. The restaurant itself is small and tucked back into a building on Kuhio Street, so it's easy to miss. They are big and I could barely finish one. The owner is super friendly and my father instantly recognized her from the Anthony Bourdain special on Puka Dog’s in Kauai. I would definitely recommend this joint if you are a hot dog connoisseur.
