We were in Youngtown one evening, saw the Royal Cafe and stopped by. A little Greek, a lot of comfort food, homemade pies.
The place was packed at 6 PM, people of all ages sitting in booths under a trellis-roofed canopy. Each row of booths had a homemade street sign for each major road in the Sun City area.
One meal was a tuna salad. The iceburg lettuce, tomatoes and cucumbers were fresh topped with jack cheese and a large portion of fresh tuna salad.
The second meal was the same greens topped with american cheese and a sliced, marinated chicken breast. The marinade was Greek-style, oregano, basil and rosemary. Tasty.
We drank iced tea, then ordered a coffee to go with our slice of pie ala mode. It was hard to choose from the variety of homemade cream and fruit pies in the dessert case. We selected a thick slice of blueberry, its crust frosted with a coating of sugar crystals, its filling dense with fruit. The coffee was classic American Road coffee. No sophisticated bled of notes and aromas. Flavorous in its Folgers way, finished with half and half.
Total bill, 2 meal salads, 2 iced teas, a cup of coffee and pie with ice cream, $20.56.
