Welcome To The Main Cup, Not just a Coffeehouse....Not just a Restaurant....... The Main Cup is located in Historic Downtown Middletown, Maryland. Its name is derived from the building's history which began over 100 years ago when C.F. Main began making and selling ice cream here. Main's Ice Cream and Butcher Shop became a Maryland institution as the business grew regionally. Presidents and state officials were known to stop at Main's on their way to Shangri-La, now known as Camp David. Ice cream was last churned here in 1969 and the Main family subsequently sold the factory. The Main Cup is proud to be the new owner of this historic landmark once again serving the community and establishing itself as Middletown's gathering place. With our humble beginning as a coffeehouse in the spring of 2007, in only a year we have become a full service restaurant offering patrons some of the best made-to-order casual gourmet fare in Frederick County. Tantalizing salads, homemade soups, crab cakes and evening plated fare can all be complimented with cocktails from our full bar. You'll be sure to enjoy this dining experience! Visit our newly expanded bar & dining area which was completed & opened in early 2013! The Main Cup offers free wireless internet in three separate seating areas and on our patio. Come and experience our great coffee, delicious food and glorious history.
It's a shame that such a cute little restuarant would have has such terrible service and food. Our waitress was rude, slow and smelled so strongly of stale smoke my husband wanted to leave as soon as she got us our drinks. My husband and I split an order of Risotto Croquettes which was without a doubt the most disgusting combination of flavors I've ever tasted. I love pesto and taleggio but all this dish served to do was ruin both. Both of us had a salad for our main course which were fine although anything after that disguesting appetizer I would have been happy with anything.
The young couple at the table next to us remarked that it's usually this bad but they come for the bartender. If your looking for a place to get a good mixed drink this may be the place to go but I don't suggest eating here.
I don't usually write reviews so I hope this is adequate. I felt the need to share my story after my husband was still talking about wasting his money 3 days after our visit.
What a welcome addition to Middletown! A friend recommended this lovely bistro to me, but she did not rave enough about it. Excellent food, superb service and prices that won't flatten your wallet. All this in a perfect setting of several rooms, one with just cushy sofas where you can sip your latte or cup of Joe.
For those in the know, this is the old Main's Meat Market, and sitting in the front room is a trip back in time when the room was very, very different! Another friend and I had lunch there today, and she laughed and laughed at my nostalgic meanderings through the front room - the deli case was here, that locker held the hamburger, here is where the Cokes were!
Welcome to Middletown, Main Cup! We have needed you for a long time.
My spouse and a few friends had dinner there a few Fridays ago. We arrived during happy hour. Nice bar area, a little bit like a sports bar, but we had quiet conversations, overall - just nice. Dinner was excellent, various seafood dishes, crab cake - needs a bit of old bay, rockfish - excellent. My friend had a sampler plate - enjoyed it. A number of tasty offerings. The Main Cup, a good place to enjoy the company of friends and a meal. Watch out for 'after happy hour' prices if you enjoy your drinks and alcoholic beverages, a bit on the steep side. Next time I'll limit myself to a beer, followed by water.
Nice place to go for a nice meal, good service and a friendly atmosphere. I'm not a regular but I go there once every other month. Recommend the Main Cup to anyone who is thinking on going there. It's not fine dining, so I would think of it as a place to eat a salad, burger with a beer and chicken fingers for the kids; with a desert to top it off. Also, nice for a coffee and a little breakfast.
My husband and I just had lunch at this place, what a wonderful place it is to eat and just visit, Our food was great, Tea out of this world good, Wait staff so polite, We will do this again, we live about 50 miles from this restaurant but will drive for the food and the area, because the food was so good. thank to all involved.
