Old World New Orleans brasseries that offers warmth, comfort, great food and good cheer. This John Besh restaurant combines the best of French, German and Creole Cuisines. Luke offers an extensive French, German, and Belgian beer selection, including two exclusive house brews [custom-made in Louisiana]. The cuisine is unaffectedly Old World, using slow and traditional cooking techniques. The wine list will feature reds and whites from the Loire, Alsace, and Savoie regions, as well as Badischerwiens of Germany. Located in the heart of the Central Business District, Luke will serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
Everyone was great at this place. you felt out of place because most of the people in there were business people. but the staff never made us feel that way. we ate there three times. the best meal that we had was on the last day of our stay for breakfast. we had pancakes with syrup. they were awesome. the waitress said it was because it was made with cane sugar. i wish we could of had these earlier.
Just returned from New Orleans. Four of us ate a late lunch. Two ordered the Luke burger and frites. The burger was one of the best I have had, and the frites were perfect!! My husband ordered the famous pulled pork sandwich on French bread. Not a crumb was left. One ordered the shrimp and grits. Very good, but spicy. The bread pudding was excellent with a light orange flavor. Our server did a great job--very pleasant and attentive. The criticism about the service in other reviews has obviously been addressed. Highly recommend!!
If you're a tourist who is wanting a formal atmosphere as your new orleans dining experiene this is not the place for you. If you want a fabulous european comfort food meal in an atmosphere with semicasual service this is it. I highly recommend it. service at a place as busy as this in post-K new orleans will not be perfect. I love Luke and would recommend it to anyone who is into the fun of fabulous dining. only place in the world I eat fries...
A trip to New Orleans means having Lunch at Luke beignets late night at Cafe Du Monde and If I wake up in time breakfast at Luke's. John Tesh was there and checked on us twice! I WILL BE BACK. Don't come to New Orleans and miss out on LUKE's.
I actually would give it a 3./5 stars, because it varies. In response to the other reviews, the service has been a HUGE problem post-Katrina, but in the last month with John Besh's organizational oversight has improved the service dramatically. These service issues are a proble at many restaurants in New ORelans post-Katrina.
The food is good as what it is advertised as--New Orleans French Alsatian bistro food-- bistro food is NOT fine dining. It has meat heavy Alsatian and N.O. dishes, as well as a great take on at Cochon de Lait po-boy (roast suckling cajun pig)--it is pressed like a Cuban sandwhich. Also, they have the best burger in town.
