Omi Risco just catered my wedding and I will say that the food was good but that is the only positive thing I have to say. She should seriously stop catering all together and just run a restaurant. STAFF IS EXTREMELY UNPROFESSIONAL AND SHE DOES NOT FOLLOW WHAT IS IN CONTRACT.... She opened our bar 2 hours early and then charged us for additional hours of services, for the additional alcohol to stock the bar & even though our contract specifically stated there would only be glass she charged us for plastic cups which she decided to use at the last minute (NOT in our contract). Also, her staff s overtime consisted of them taking pictures in our photobooth and behaving as though they were guests at our wedding. There is a strict rule at The Thomas Center in Gainesville regarding no glass or can beers yet her staff still served canned beers at our wedding. I now have pictures from our wedding with beer cans like its a frat party. On top of all of this and overpaying for the number of guests that actually attended she charged us an additional costs that she incurred outside of our contract. Instead of contacting me directly she slyly went behind my back and contacted my parents who simply paid her because they did not realize she had not spoken to me or my husband. Now we have no way of getting a refund even though she broke our contract and it would cost us more money to do anything about it than I spent on the event... so I will have to say to everyone YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR! Keep that in mind when booking with her. Also, she will charge you after the fact and you will end up paying what you would of spent with a professional. Go to the professional or hire your own staff.
Also in regards to the bar being opened early, her reasoning was that me (the bride) and my husband (the groom) each asked for a drink prior to the ceremony so she felt the bar should be opened to EVERYONE prior to our ceremony without approval from the people paying for the extra time (each person had 3+ cocktails without food prior to our wedding - to say the least things were a mess as a result which she feels she should take no responsibility for what so ever). Also, my wedding planner ON THE DAY OF reminded Omi and her staff that beer and wine were to be served during the cocktail hour and then a full bar should be opened during dinner - yet STILL the full bar was open PRIOR TO THE CEREMONY EVEN STARTING and we were charged for the additional hours of service and she blamed my husband, the wedding planner, the fact that it rained, my parents, EVERYONE but herself and her management skills for what happened. When I requested a refund for the additional charges she said I was insulting her - in all honesty I am the one who is insulted for being treated with such little respect from someone who calls themself a professional....
Seriously? Your staff is in our photobooth taking pictures in the middle of the reception and you call them and yourself a professional? Give me a break.
There are a LOT of pluses and minuses with this caterer. PLUSES: The food is fabulous--tasty, perfect temperature, beautifully displayed and abundant! Everyone loved it, nobody went hungry, we brought tons of left-overs home (nicely packaged), The staffing is adequate. The table and service settings and linens are lovely and the cost beats the next most popular caterer in Gainesville by a mile! That being said, there are some MINUSES: This is a very busy catering business without ANY office staff whatsoever! Communication is exceedingly difficult and the feeling that you are crossing your fingers and hoping they remember to show up at your wedding is a stressful reality. I did NOT receive ONE phone call the week of the wedding letting me know that things were on track or checking for last-minute changes. The owner is a nice woman, but she needs to seriously consider hiring someone to manage the catering who is devoted to just this function. For a first-timer, the lack of communication is frustrating and scary. Also, The staff, at the wedding looked a little bit like they were being tortured instead of paid (smiles were as scarce as hen's teeth). In the end, I give them a very mixed review--fabulous end-product (seriously, it was BEAUTIFUL), very unorganized and harem-scarem business process.
