Let me start by saying that the service at Red Elephant is fantastic. The servers are very nice and took wonderful care of my table, the few times I have been there. Unfortunatly for me, I eat at restaraunts for the food. The pizza has this taste that lingers in your mouth like sour, over garliced, yeast dough. The burgers are some of the greasiest I've ever had. The fries are soggy and limp. The salad usually has brown spots and the supposedly fresh fish is obviously frozen due to its bad texture and fishy taste. I know people rave about the pizza and I have given it multiple attempts with an open mind, trying different items and such, but I just don't see it. Maybe the servers should teach the cooks how to do their job or the owners should stop cutting corners and cook their food with respect.
I gave them 2 stars becuase I feel like the wait staff deserved it.
The fish sandwich I had at Red Elephant was by far the best sandwich I've had in a long time. The fries are also exceptional, and the atmosphere is really laid-back (mostly booth seating, lots of families, etc.). This is definitely a much better value than places like Applebees/Ruby Tuesdays/TGI Fridays.
I was trying to write a review for the Red Elephant Pizza and Grill in Tampa, but Yahoo maintains it does not exist...so I will write it here!
We were coming back from Lowry Zoo and we were intending on going to Kobe (Hibachi). We found, however, that they did not open until 5pm. Next door was this restaurant, which we had never heard of before. It had a pretty good sized crowd for it being neither lunch nor dinner (around 3). I ordered the veggie wrap, my mom had the roast beef au jus, my little brother had the grilled cheese, my dad had the calzone, and my boyfriend had the burger. Altogether, it was a pretty eclectic lunch.
We ended up sharing all of each others' meals, and I have to say everything was absolutely DELICIOUS! The manager stopped by to ask us why we chose to eat there, and we were honest about intending on eating at Kobe, to which he responded with a pleasant laugh. Our server, Brittany, was great and very friendly. Everyone who worked there seemed in good spirits, not trudging around like some places.
Overall, the food was amazing, and the atmosphere and people did not hurt the score at all. I will be traveling 2 hours out of the way to eat here again for my birthday!
