Please do not listen to seb- tokyo is wonderful although as someone mentioned the service does tend to be slow. The food is great and the staff is friendly. Brookes, which he recommended,is the reason I had to respond- that is one of the worst places I have ever eaten- really, on par with fast food.

Tokyo Tavern is one of the best dining experiences Oneonta, NY has to offer! Of the food is great, the prices are good, and the staff is friendly and always happy to serve! If you live in or are visiting Oneonta, NY and have not been to this place yet then you don't know what you're missing!

My family loves this place. You can't beat the lunch specials and the sushi is great.

I like this restaurant. It is the most civilized part of dining in Oneonta. I first learned about it on saveoneonta.blogspot.com a fun website.

This is one of the best Japanese restaurants around!... Binghamton has a few nice places as well such as Kampi, and is about the same distance as Oneonta from me, but I choose to go here.

Hmmm...want to take my little sister to sushi tonight, and I'm pretty sure this is the only local place to go...just called to see what time they closed tonight, and I'm not sure the woman really knew she was working there. Very strange, hope the food is better.

My family and I have frequented Japanese Restaurants in Las Vegas, California, Chicago, New York and countless other states and cities. When we moved to the Oneonta area we honestly weren't expecting to find a quality sushi eatery. In fact, we traveled four hours back to NYC several times to eat at our favorite sushi restaurant. Then we discoved Tokyo - what a surprise. The cusine is excellent, the presentation is artful, the portions are generous, the atomosphere is plesant and the cost is suprisingly affordable. Service could be quicker but hey - the wait is worth it! It has been a long time since we had to travel to NYC to eat sushi now that we have found our favorite and regular sushi establishment - Tokyo. We eat there at least once a week. Peter Fiduccia

While I was in the Navy I was stationed in Japan for 3 years and have been to literally 100s of Sushi/Japanese restaurants. I can honestly say this is one of the best. The food, and service are awesome! The presentation of the food is first class. Small things like carving a head out of a lemon and adding eyes made out of fish eggs for the Black Dragon show they go the extra mile. I eat at the Tokyo Tavern at least once a week and sometimes more and have always enjoyed my meals there!

I was pleased with this place. The Miso Soup, though not perfect was still quite good. I recommend the Black Dragon roll, it doesn't matter if you've eaten Eel before or not, you'll probably like it, I know I did. I also recommend the Dancing Eel, Double Hamachi, Manhattan, Rock n' Roll, and Green Dragon rolls. I'm from NYC and have been to plenty of great Sushi places, although it may not be THE best I've ever had, it's certainly no where near the worst. I think Seb might have come in on a bad day, I've been there three times since coming to Oneonta and it hasn't been THAT bad.

This was the worst Japanese restaurant I have ever experienced. My dinner came with an assortment of raw vegetables that were supposed to be steamed, baby carrots from a bag, canned baby corn and raw broccoli which were all ice cold. The food was bland and to be frank, it was disgusting. I even dared to order California rolls, which was a big mistake. I couldn't believe how bad they were. On top of the horrible food, the service was even worse. We also ordered chicken teriyaki, which was served over a bed of raw onions. The salad was comprised of the hearts of ice berg lettuces with a watery ginger sauce. They couldn’t even get the Miso soup right; it had a fishy taste which was just repulsive. I am not the type to write reviews, but after the horrifying experience, I felt a responsibility to let others know how awful this establishment is. I have eaten at many Japanese restaurants and I am no neophyte to this cuisine. Please, if you read this, reconsider. One of the best places that I have eaten in Oneonta is a great bar-b-q restaurant called Brooks. I am in no way affiliated with them but while eating in the Tokyo nightmare restaurant, all I could do was wish I was at Brooks. I really hope this helps.
