It's as American as apple pie—maybe even more so in this generation. Not only that, but in sleepy Kailua-Kona, it's an integral part of a limited nightlife scene. Locals and tourists alike come here to enjoy burgers, brews, lively nights and some of the best sunsets in the world. Depending on your taste, you can either try to spot the legendary green flash (happens when the sun meets the horizon) or check out a piece of rock memorabilia. Live music and club nights are sometimes featured.
On Friday, March 21, 2008 I shopped at the Hard Rock Cafe in Kona, HI. The clerk was unfriendly at best. I took the shirts I liked on the rack to the clerk and she pulled 3 from the shelf and rehung those I picked out. I bought several shirts and then we went upstairs for lunch. I realized I needed another shirt, so went back down and asked for another in the same style I had purchased earlier. I asked for the same shirt, size L, and when I returned to the states found that she had given me a small - this sure won't fit a 190 pound man! This was my first BAD experience in a HRC, and I've been in MANY of them....well, lunch was good so it wasn't a total bust!
The service was not unfriendly but they didnt do anything they didnt have to do. They took the order, brought the food, brought the check, made change. They never once came to refill drinks even when they brought the check! How lazy is that? And the food was not very good as far as Hard Rocks go. Salad was wilted and Pig Sandwich was dry. I like Hard Rock Cafes in general. When I am in a foreign land or strange city and Ive had an unlucky streak of bad food and bad prices I know I can go to Hard Rock and get decent food and I know what it will cost. I even have a Hard rock club card. But this Hard Rock is at the bottom of my list.
