Loved Lake Accotink Park
By Lorraine, 08/11/08
If you live Fairfax County and haven't had a chance to visit this small park in Springfield take the time to do so. My husband and I walked the trail around the lake on a quiet Sunday morning and actually saw an Otter playing in the water, we also saw a rare Green Heron and a large white Egret, just a few of the beautiful birds in the park. Though there were a lot of bikes, joggers and walkers on the trail everyone we met was friendly and courteous; respecting the quiet and tranquility of the park.

Great Park
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/30/08
Great trail for walkers/joggers or bikes. It also connects with the CCT; Faifax "Cross Country Trial". We have been as far as Lawyers Road to Old Keen Mill Rd on the CCT which cuts threw Lake Accotink. We have seen deer, owls, foxes and sometimes snakes (black snakes). Lots of birds.

Well this park is fun for children and a great place for picnics! Everyone enjoys this place because of the water, parks, and picnic area!

It's awesome!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 02/17/07
It was totally cool! The lake is nice on a windy day. A walk down the creek side is pretty fun. You can usually see deer, neat fish, cool snakes, lots of ducks, and blue herrin. It has a great biking trail! Which is also great for a long Sunday afternoon hike! The staff at the park are very nice people. They will help you out with anything! They know their park! I'm definately coming back soon!!

Bikers Alert
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/11/06
I biked Lake Accotink yesterday (7/10/06) with four boys (10,7,5,3) and we had a great day! However, be aware that there are three spots on the 4 miles loop where you have to dismount due to steep inclines/steps. Just before you enter the very short part of the trail that goes through a neighborhood, there is a set of very steep steps to hike up. There is a path off to the left to walk the bikes around, but it is still pretty steep. Not impossible (I had to bring up three of the four bikes myself), just so you know before you go. The majority of the trail is flat with few hills. My 5 year old who has only been riding without training wheels for a year did great on it.

Great Carp Difficult but Nice Bass
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/03/06
Well, for starters, let me just say that this review is mostly about the fishing quality at lake Accotink. Accotink provides a fantastic carp fishing experience both on the lake and at the dam below. However, I've caught far more carp at the dam since it's smaller and more easy to locate the carp. I'm landing at least 4-6 carp every outing, which is about 3 hours each outing. Mostly from 2-4 lbs, but once in a while a big one surprizes me and runs out all of line. The biggest one I've caught was not weight but guessing I'd say an easy 15 lbs. but maybe more like 17 or 18. it was definitly over 30 inches, I did measure it but i can't remember if it was 34 or 36 inches. The bass fishing is difficult since the water clarity is poor at best and usually terrible since the carp stir up all the silt, dredging is fixing that problem though. The bass can get nice, it's not difficult to locate the big ones, 2-3 pounders, but there are lots of little ones running around. They're mainly feeding on the shad and like to chase them around afternoon hours around the rocky side adjacent to the marina and just before the dam. It's hardy to catch many bass, but silver rattle traps and white spinner baits with willow blades work wonders mimicing the shad. Try going behind the island where it's shallow, some bass like to school over there and you may be surprized about the numbers you'll see. there is a creek that runs into accotink and it's loaded with bass and bluegill, though mainly babies hang out there, you can see them schooling and some big ones come once in a while. top water frogs or dark plastics will definitly get a strike. Good luck - Danny
