Sawgrass Lake County Park, St Petersburg

It was Thanksgiving Day and our choices were limited as to what we could do so we decided to check out Sawgrass Lake County Park. To our surprise the park was FREE … which is always a good thing when you can find something for free when you are on vacation! They have a nice little information center that houses a small aquarium with an assortment of fish and turtles. There are also displays with info on various shells found in the area, Indian artifacts, insects and spiders and a butterfly garden outside the door. A wooden boardwalk extends 1.6 miles from the information center and meanders through the park and near the channels with several overlook areas for viewing the wildlife and waterfowl. Gators can be seen in the channels but we were not fortunate enough to see any the day we were there. We did see a beautiful Great Blue Heron stately standing on the waters edge and also a Great Egret and Little Blue Heron feeding in the shallow waters of the channels. We would have like to have walked more of the boardwalk but it started to rain so we cut our visit short. If we are ever in this area again, we WILL go back.. This is a nice little park and worth the visit.

IT WAS LIKE BEING IN THE MOST PEACEFUL, SERENE PLACE. YOU GET TO SEE ALOT OF WILD LIFE AND CAN GET AWAY FROM ALL THE HECTICNESS OF THE DAY TO DAY WORRIES AND THE KIDS LOVE IT BECAUSE THEY CAN BE "FREE".
