Natural Beauty
This is the place in St. Petersburg you might safely see an alligator in the wild...and it's FREE. From the moment you leave your car in the parking lot, you'll see many types of Florida wildlife: fishing birds (egrets, herons, etc.), snakes, armadillos, rats, native fish, and lots more! If you like nature walks, this is the place.
There's a great boardwalk where you can safely traverse the nature sanctuary to Sawgrass Lake. Look for elaborate spider webs all along the path. When you get to the lake, there's a tower to observe the lake in its entirety. Alligators live all around the lake, so close to the path you could almost touch them (but don't!).
This is one of my favorite places in the city, where nature meets I-275's traffic noise and still thrives. You will not be disappointed -- it's worth the trip to this hidden gem.
