Florida Holocaust Museum
The Holocaust Museum chronicles one of the grimmest segments of the world's history. The terrible story unfolds in photos, letters, and objects related to the Holocaust experience, including an authentic boxcar used to transport prisoners. An Anne Frank exhibit is one of the most touching and not to be missed. Exhibits of art that are genocide-related can be viewed as well, and exhibits change frequently. Admission is $8 adults, $7 for college students and seniors and $4 for students under the age of 18.
I was disappointed that the life of Corrie ten Boom or story of The Hiding Place was not within the museum. I was also disappointed that nothing could be found on her life in the store. I have been encouraged by her life and drove to St Pete just to learn more about how she lived and what she went through. Would have like to learn more about her and her family's lives - after all her father and sister gave their lives so others could live.
this was like stepping back in time ..the faces and letters of people of that era, the sheer volume of people that suffered, the innocent people who had done nothing to deserve such cruel fate. I was heartbroken that even small babies and toddlers were murdered, stripped from mothers who could not stop what happend ..i had never studied indepth the terrible events, and walking through these rooms full of photographs and exhibits moved me to tears for humanity. i hope our future holds more promise than our past...there is much to be learned from the holocaust, but we must first be aware ofthe actual history and events...looking at these things from the past brings the reality of the tragedy to me..i am grateful i went even tho it made me so sad.
