Boyd Hill Nature Park
This pleasant park offers varied wilderness habitats sandwiched between a golf course, subdivisions, and the St. Pete skyline. You can bike through pine flatwoods dominating acres of palmetto or stroll a boardwalk through a willow marsh bordering Lake Maggiore. Swamp woodlands are richly diverse in trees, shrubs and what's hidden under and over them. Butterflies abound. You can also check out the gopher tortoise, protected by area scrubland. Guided tours are available, although some cost money, so it's best to bring cash. Rest stops along the way provide cold drinks. Admission: Adults $2, Children (3-16) $1; Under 3 free.
