Description

You can get in on a beach volleyball game at this interesting lounge that's right on the beach, or just sit back and watch the motivated do their thing. A simple, open-air beach shack bar with sand courts, this getaway is very popular any time of year but it's packed in winter season. You can stroll the beach between sips and watch the dolphins that often come by to entertain. Naturally, sunset watching is a major sport here, accompanied by a frozen daiquiri or margarita. Undertow serves no food, so think of it as a before- or after-dinner spot for mellowing out.

It is a cute little bar. It did serve food. The menu was reasonable, burgers, sandwiches, and fried fish.

St. Pete is not Tampa

Anyone who says the undertow is a Tampa bar, needs to study geography, St. Pete Beach is a min of 40 minutes from the closest border of Tampa.

They've expanded both the geography of the bar (it's far larger now) & serve awesome food! Try the ahi tuna (sandwich or on a salad), the buffalo wings & fries are killer!

Best Little Beach Bar in Tampa Bay

The undertow has been the "go to" beach bar in St. Pete for a number of years. Unless you are looking for a family environment, this place should have everything you are looking for in a Florida Beach Bar. Beer, Bikinis, Beutiful People, Bands, Boats, Beach Volleyball and more. Great location and great fun. Just as a clsrification for those who do not know, while the Undertow is not in Tampa, Tampa Bay is the area that includes Tampa, St. Pete and Clearwater. Anyway, if you are looking for a true Florida beach bar, do not miss this spot!!!!

LOVED THIS PLACE!!!!

We stayed a few houses down from the undertow....... we ate there every day, food was wonderfull and the staff was great. i would try the ahi tuna, RARE!!! large selection of beers and great mixed drinks at great prices. this place was what i had in mind when i think of a beach bar. cant wait to go back again next year!

Plastic Heaven

If you're into plastice bodies, personalities, and drinks, then the Undertow is your place. Karen and Paul have turned a quaint small beach bar into the Clearwater beach of St. Petersburg Beach. Good luck with parking and enjoy filling the pockets of arrogant business owners. If there is one normal person who enjoys the nature of what a beach should be, you would be lucky to find them there. BTW Undertow is on St. Pete Beach not Tampa......

Great Idea, Bad Business

Great location and layout, however, as another reviewer wrote, some of the help is arrogant and rude. The employees have no sense of "customer" and, apparently, if you're not a body builder or model under the age of 25, don't expect to get good treatment here. They don't really want you. Too bad. Maybe that's why so many business end up failing (hint).. . . ...

Favorite place in Florida!

The Undertow beach bar has been and remains my favorite place to go when I get the chance to escape the icy tundra up here in Ontario Canada. The staff and patrons of the "Tow' made me want to come back every year. Lots memories of fun and friends made there. I will be back!!

Best Bar on the Beach

This place is like a dream come true...go there early in the morning for a nice quiet breakfast and listen to the waves crash...go there in the afternoon for the AHI Tuna Rare for lunch and listen to the waves crash...go there in the evening and enjoy the music and the waves crashing...the girls are the best, unlike a lot of bars they treat the women just as nice as they do the men...the food is excellent, the patrons are full of fun...lost my job in 2009, found a job in 2010.....can't wait to get back there this November.....LOVE THIS PLACE!!!!! *****
