Presidio Social Club
Serving up a classic Northern California vibe, attentive hospitality, and a locally sourced, seasonal menu, San Francisco's iconic Presidio Social Club is open every day for all your social gatherings. Nestled within the beautiful Presidio National Park, PSC is at once an inviting urban oasis and a lively destination fit for an intimate dinner for two or a celebratory venue for large groups. Erected in 1903 as a military barracks, the historical building has been converted into a modern eatery sure to put anyone "at-ease" featuring contemporary twists on San Francisco staples and artfully crafted cocktails.
Spruced up army barracks that retains some of the original archtectural feel. Bartenders are pros & the mixed drinks are good. No blenders at the bar, the House Margarita is on-the-rocks. We had just a few plates of appetizers. All were tasty. We got there at 4:50 pm on a Monday, so there was parking available in front of the building and the dining room was just starting to fill. By 5:30pm the place was crowded pandemonium. Michael Bauer just reviewed this place in the Sunday Magazine with several photos, check out his review on line. I'm not Ga-Gah over the food, the scene, nor the location, but it is a fun destination IF you do not have to work too hard to get inside.
The Kobe Beef Sloppy Joe was an interesting dinner item, but not as salty as the traditional. The combined slow cooked chopped tomatoes nestled between a nice bread roll w/ side of slaw and skinny fries were nice. I have to admit sloppy joe's are best when original. The Kobe beef was however tender and tried to be Sloppy. The winner that night was the Escarole Salad. The Fried Eggs, which was OVEREASY, which I LOVE, was the highlight. The liver and onions were medium rare and perfect. It came with old school basic mashed potatos which actually were nice in a world of exotic and sometimes overdone flavors. I have to give it the Presidio Social Club for having interesting twists yet keeping the flavors and food at a nice minimum. The space really is nice and unique. I look forward to seeing more Presidio offerings overall in the future.
The Presidio Social Club is another feather in the cap of the Presidio dining scene. Old pharmacy cabinets and antique
fixtures add an interesting, almost nostalgic '40s theme to this upscale restaurant. This fusion of old and new is ...
