White Horses Restaurant & Bar, San Clemente

It was GREAT !! IN CAPS !! I was hesitant to visit - Tammy put me off - but I went anyway. How often do you see reviews by people who wanted money off their meal because they are spoilt ! Sorry Tams you are wrong. This family owned restaurant is superb. I went on Sunday nite the atmos was great - the food choices very varied and interesting - the service more than acceptable. We had the choice of two menus - a very inexpensive early bird menu and the regular dinner menu. We picked off both. I had the Paella - yum yum yum lots of fresh seafood with a saffron rice and real chorizo from Spain ! Friends had a variety - Duck from the EB menu was fruity tasty and fabulous value - a very tasty Italian meatloaf from the same menu and Chilaen sea bass - roasted in a little bacon fat - unbelievable - served with a crispy strip of pancetta. The wine list is very very reasonable - cheaper than a lot of cheaper restaurants. We are already booked in for next Saturday - see you there. ps did I mention the view and the artwork.....

My husband and I went to the White Horses restaurant with friends for dinner on a Saturday night. We frequently try new restaurants with our friends based on the internet reviews. I have to say they were entirely off on this one. Service was slow - we asked for bread 3 or 4 times before getting it. The food was mediocre for the price. The menu does not give a good description of what your dish will actually be. My friend ordered a shrimp dish and it was served with the head and tails fully entact - she asked to please get another dish because she could not eat it like that. (not an uncommon request at a restaurant) We received our bill we were surprised that they did not take the shrimp dish off our bill.... not that we were that concerned with the money the shrimp dish was only $24 ( our bill was $400 for four of us) we just felt the manager should have removed it from the bill out of curteousy... she never even touched it - as soon as the waiter put the plate down she asked he please take it back. When we asked to speak to the manager - we were informed the chef is the manager. He came to the table and was very rude and abrupt. We explained the situation - he didn't even pretend to listen. We will never visit this restaurant again and discourage anyone who appreciates common courtesy and great service to steer clear of the White Horses restaurant... as the chef/manager is a real horses butt.
