As we were driving around the area, a young man holding a sign caught our attention and we decided to try this restaurant. He looked friendly. We were greeted nicely. The sounds and smells were inviting. We had a very nice server named Tara. She explained the menu and the specials which reminded me of gourmet country cooking.
Enough variety to serve most guests including vegetarian and gluten free menu items. We had the crab ceasar salad ( which needed more dressing that I requested and was promptly given)and the mahi special. The cornbread tasted like it had a hint of sweet potato and was thin and moist. We had the berry crepes for dessert. Everything was fresh and delicious.
The owner checked on us and his restaurant reflects his welcoming spirit.
The entire bill was under 45.00, which so far for us on this vacation is a record low. Definitely a thumbs up.
We live in town and this is our go-to restaurant. Everything is freshly prepared. The staff is great. Howar, the owner, is great. I could make a meal with a glass wine and the dinner rolls alone. There is no way you could be disappointed with this place.
Went here for Father's Day and had great service and great food. We are locals and this is our favorite restaurant. Howard, the owner, is almost always at the restaurant, and he checks every table. The menu is wonderful -- varied, with good selections. The best "side" offerings in town -- and I would kill for his sweet potato cornbread recipe!!!!
By far this is one of my favorite restaurants in Williamsburg! The manager/owner is always in the restaurant when we go and is very involved in the running of the place. He ensures everyone is happy and enjoying their meals. I have tried many different dishes and all of them are really good! Some of the other reviews are correct in that the service is usually slow but the wait is worth it to us. It is not overly expensive, dishes run between 8 and 10 dollars. I always bring family and friends to Food for Thought and they all enjoy it as much as my husband, children and I do.
We had dinner at this restaurant on our last visit to Williamsburg. We loved this restaurant- the food, the service, the location, and the atmosphere. Very family friendly.
I've been to Food for Thought three times and thoroughly enjoyed myself each time. The staff was friendly, the food was great, the atmosphere was warm, and even the other customers were nice to be around. What more could you want?
Homer and EK were either at a different restaurant altogether or maybe they're the owners of another restaurant in town, simply looking to bad-mouth this fine establishment. We are locals who frequent this eatery and we have NEVER had a bad experience or a bad meal. The food is consistently excellent and the staff ALWAYS pleasant and accommodating. As far as the advertisement is concerned, you need to visit Food For Thought to understand the meaning behind the Gandhi thing.
A great place to eat! A variety of meals that even a vegetarian will enjoy. The staff is fantastic. If you have to wait a few extra minutes for your food, just use the different cards on your table to occupy your thoughts. The manager is always there. It really feels great to have the manager come around and stop at the tables and say hello. I just wish this place was located closer to my home! One time I ordered the spaghetti squash and the manager came out to expalin that the squash was much smaller than usual and I could either order something else or he would serve both halves of the small squash for the cost of the one. The Portabella stack is also delicious. I love this place!
