It was a waste of food and money. I had recently tried this restaurant for lunch one day since I love Thai food and wanted Pad thai. My dish had very little flavor. There were tiny, and I mean tiny, pieces of Tofu and shrimp, almost almost no egg, and the veggies were not fresh. The dish was a very average size lunch plate (most men would be disappointed).
When I got the bill, I checked it twice cause it was so high for so very little food. I did tip, even though the service was poor, even though I was the only person in there at the time and they played video games at the counter. I wouldn't normally care but it seemed like as a business as a whole they did not care.
I basically got ripped off for a plate of noodles. The experience made me realize - I'll just make it at home. Save my money. However, on nights I don't cook their are a few really great choices in the area Like Som Sak and Thai Orchid. Just this place was real close and hoped for better.
Simply amazing. The soup is full of flavor, the dishes and the sauces are just perfect....the best Thai Restaurant that i have been to (and I have been to tons in Philly, NY, and New Jersey).
You will NEVER be disappointed, and it is constantly amazing, fresh, delicious food.
We've eaten at some of the best Thai restaurants in many cities and Bangkok City most certainly rivals them. When you order the Tom Kai Soup (coconut milk with lemon grass for two, you will get a ringed tureen with a small fire in the center. There is more than enough soup there for four people. We always have at least three bowls filled with chucks of chicken, tomatoes, mushrooms and onion that was obviously made fresh and in a broth that is so flavorful you really don't want to stop eating it. And we still take some home. When you order it for lunch you will get one bowl of it and it is really quite a full and generous portion as well. Their appetizers, of which we tried several are also quite delicious and served with a slightly spicy honey sauce that is very nice! My favorite dish, Panang curry is so delicious and the sauce is thick and flavorful. I ask for it as a strong medium hotness and thats what I get. There are only a couple of Thai restaurants that I've ever enjoyed as much, one in San Diego, one in Phoenix and one in Atlanta. Their three flavor fish is an amazing experience, we get it with tilapia (you can have salmon too) and its spicy and sweet with big chunks of pineapple. The fish has a lite crispy coating and it will melt in your mouth. The Pad Thai is served with a bunch of different toppings in little piles along the dish, including sugar, red pepper flakes and peanuts. We don't usually use the first two, so we ask for it without. Once our daughter scooped up some of the Red pepper without knowing.... the Thai iced tea is perfect for that! We've brought numerous friends and co-workers to the restaurant and every one of them have been amazed at the quality and flavor. They have all either returned on their own or come back with us for more. The prices are great too (can't imagine what that other reviewer was thinking!) About the only semi bad thing I would say is that sometimes the service isn't the fastest. They often have only one server that takes cares of the whole place and take out orders too. It's decor is lovely and so we really don't mind a nice relaxed and thoroughly delicious meal. Can't say about the desserts... we never have room to try them. They have listed a Creme Brulee but were told by the waiter that is not a typical one. We highly recommend this as the finest Thai food in the area.
My wife and I love Thai food. This is, by far, the best Thai that we have had in south Jersey and Philadelpha. Other restaurants are fancier, or have a larger staff with better service, but Bangkok City has the best tasting food. On date nights, we go here and to the Ritz Theatre, which is within a quarter of a mile.
I really did not care for this restaurant. I love foriegn cuisine and am a regular to enjoying it from Philly to AC. My meal was ok as far as freshness but there was not much on the plate, the service was just ok but the with everything not being so hot then I saw the bill - it was sky high!
