The beer at Firehouse is fantastic - five stars for the brew. It's possibly the best microbrew in the south bay/peninsula. The restaurant, however, gets 2 stars. I used to like going here with my family but the place feels more like Hooters (what's with the waitresses in short skirts and tight tops?) than my local pub. It's noisy and too many TVs. Seems like it's confused as to whether it wants to be a sports bar for dudes or a brewpub. Finally, the food is pretty uninspired, especially for veggies.
Firehouse charged us $26 per person for a group lunch. I got the fish tacos and it was 3 small tortillas, 90% was lettuce and a tiny piece of grilled mahi, which I don't even remember tasting. I ate the whole thing in 1 minute and was still hungry. That was it, no sides, no appetizers, no dessert, and a soft drink - $26! There wasn't anything special about the dish or anything else to justify that cost. Firehouse just gouged us.
Went there last Friday and was impressed. Had read about them in a write-up so and friend and I decided to check them out. The service was excellent, nice and fast. Food was good and the ale was good as well. The setup up of the place on the first floor is more of a sports bar type of feel, but if you want a more intimate setting the upstairs would be a better choice. Check them out and judge for youself.
This place took over the old Stoddard’s Brew Pub location on Murphy Ave, but they didn’t do much in terms of improving the menu. I had lunch their recently and was extremely disappointed with the quality of the food, the portion size and the service. We waited 30 minutes or so to have our orders taken, then waited another 20 minutes for our food to come out. I love the location, so I was hoping the new owners would provide a quality dining establishment on Murphy, but those hopes were dashed during my one and only visit. I won’t be going back.
This is a nice place to hang out. Situated in the middle of Sunnyvale downtown, this brewery provided sports fans a good place to enjoy good food, big screen TV to catch the actions and get high on local beer.
We tried the Seafood Brochette and Brew Master's Pork Ribs, they were both good! I like the brochette's sauce, very creamy for the seafood. The ribs came in with 2 full slabs, huge portion and tasty meat inside. I could even taste the alcohol used in braising the ribs.
For drinks, we tried the Hefeweizen, a light beer and a seasonal offer of Irish stout, rather creamy and smooth. I like them both!
All in all a good hang out!
It was busy when we got there, seems to be the place to go after work. Decent happy hour but it ends early. At least you can catch up on sports because they have several tvs.
We moved to dinner upstairs (I didn't even realize they had an upstairs) and I was surprised at the quality of food. The service was good, very friendly and efficient but the server did seemed stretched to thin when we needed another round. At least he apologized for the delay.
It was a bit loud at times but I think the value was good. We would have paid much more at other places (I hope they don't change their prices, value is good, overpriced is not). I will be back there soon!
