ROYAL INDIA

Description

Royal India is considered to be the best Indian restaurant in the whole of downtown San Diego. The cuisine served here is mainly North Indian, blending in unique flavors of all the Indian spices to create magic on your plate. The tandoori kebabs, curries like Channa Masala and Makhanwala , nan bread and the seafood, all are simply amazing. Royal India has a wonderful 10 foot waterfall right in the center which perfectly suits the distinctly Indian decor.

Extremely expensive
By ,
The place was very nice however, the prices of the meals were expensive for what you get. The portions are very stingy and very diluted. Maybe it was just the meal my husband and I got but they were watery and not tasty at all. I could've gotten more for half price and a better meal at a different Indian restaurant. It seems like you're paying for the ambience and the location not for the food itself.

Nice restaurant. Average service. Food was good but over priced for what you get. Portions were small. Paid $22 for shrimp tandoori that came on plate with 4 medium shrimps. Maybe the lunch buffets would be a better value.

I was visiting San Deigo from Virginia and had dinner at this resturant on the xMas day. There were a few things that we liked and a lot of things that we hated about your resturant. - Ambiance was very nice - They did not have child seat available. There was only one seat that they had and that was occupied. - It was too pricy - Food taste was okay, like any other indian resturant. Nothing Great - Quantities were just too less. I would have thought that atleast for the price the quantities would be atleast enough to fill one person with decent appetite. In all I will recommend to not to go to this resturant Hope you guys get better...

This place should not be in business. Its daylight robbery what they charge and serve. I would not feed my own dogs this kind of food. After having trouble eating this food, I decided to give five dollars to the waiter to show me how they make the naan bread so that I could inspect the kitchen. What a sight. Roaches, bugs, filth etc. just like the slums in Slumdog Millionaire. City of San Diego needs to check this place out and probably shut it down. I wonder if this guys could even sell food on a cart. DONT EAT HERE.

Do not patronize this restaurant. They post hostesses outside the restaurant who welcome non-Black patrons and passersby, while turning their heads when African Americans walk by. I have lived downtown for years and used to pass this place daily and not ONCE have I seen a black person greeted!!! And, yes, I just walked by there on this Memorial Day Weekend and saw that blonde hostess speak to a white woman jogger then turn her racist little head when a black guy passed by, then began greeting again once he had passed and only whites remained!

I did not think I liked Indian food until I visited Royal India. I love it. I eat lunch here 2 or 3 times every week.

I come to San Diego about twice a year and enjoy the gaslamp district greatly. I was especially excited this year about coming to Royal India for dinner with a select group of friends. I made a reservation nearly a week in advance this year to make sure that I could easily get a table for four since I was coming during a large convention. I can't say enough about the low quality of service I received. We were rushed to order, rushed to eat, and then whenever we actually needed someone who was part of the staff, we received no attention. In addition, two members of my party were african american and the attitude of the waiter was disgraceful towards my friends. I am very sorry to say I will never return.

Lunch buffet quality has gone down and the price has been increased in the last year I visited Royal India. My entire family was not happy with the flavor and taste of food. I would not go there again. Service was slow. Only one dessert item in lunch buffet compared to a year ago.
