Best Course in Either City
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/9/11
There are a few very good new courses in the suburbs, but if you want to play a classic parkland golf course, in town, this is the best in MSP. Course has great history and nostalgia: it hosted the PGA's St. Paul Open, 2 PGA Championships, a Western Open (when that meant something), plus the LPGA. The walls are covered with photos of past champions. But the course: it's built on some interesting rolling terrain that gives it visual appeal...a lot of private courses would love to have that land. It can be fragile, condition-wise...a lot depends on weather. But when it's good, it's very good. The superintendent doesn't over-water, and likes to keep the greens firm. Much more fun that way, and good players really like it because it rewards good shot-making. Overall, you can't find a better golf course. You may find its equal, but you'll pay more and you'll drive farther.
