Rosen's Bar & Grill
This is a popular hangout before or after a Target Center event. Owned by and named after a local sportscaster, you might even catch a glimpse of some of the subjects of his work. The place is usually packed wall-to-wall on game days but the wait is minimal for the lunch crowd. The noise of the crowd combined with the multiple TVs blaring different sports events can be deafening. However, refuge can be found away from the crowd in the high-backed booths. Darts, pinball and pool provide distraction from the TVs. The food is well prepared and all entrees are less than $10. The burger platters are hearty and the pasta plates are piled high. The salad and sandwiches are generous portions also but make for a lighter meal. On warm days the early arrivals can grab a window (it can be opened) or sidewalk table.
If you are looking for the place to go downtown- this is NOT it. I went there briefly for a bachlorette party the other night, and let me tell you the crowd there has the pulse of a decaying body. The almost empty bar had patrons that were so rude, arrogant and boring- I would have had a better time sawing my arm off.
The bouncers were just the same as their clientele . After trying to follow the bridal party out of the almost empty bar at 11:00pm, a few fell behind. After I tried to go after them (mind you- before being accepted into 3 more bars before the evening ended). I was harshly grabbed by the arm and told I was too intoxicated to return inside the bar. Being female, alone on 1st avenue and supposedly 'intoxicated'. The bouncer could have cared less about my situation- and would not even go back inside himself to find my party. He was inconsiderate and unsympathetic.
I suggest if you are looking for a good time, that you continue to the next bar. The 10 foot walk is worth it.
This place use to be good, however we went her last night and it wasn't very busy so we sat ourselves and ordered our food. After 45 minutes of the waitress never coming back and taking a drink order from us or any word on our food we tracked her down and asked her if our food was almost done. She was very rude and just walked away from us. After sitting at our table another 10 minutes she never came back with a food update so we left. We ended up leaving there after an hour with only being served water and the waitress not speaking to us in almost an hour. That is horrible horrible customer service! We usually come here during Badger Football games and Badger Basketball games with a huge group of people because all my friends are from Wisconsin, but after this experience we will have to find a new Badger Bar...
Rosens Bar is going downhill. I feel sorry that this bar is becoming a waste of space. I guess they put themselves there. After all, if you have staff that would lie, cheat, harass or beat, it's not going to be a pleasant place. The people make a place what it is and so sorry this place is a waste.
