Alpine Slide at Lutsen Mountains, Lutsen

There are NO mountains in Minnesota. Calling them "mountains" is a marketing ploy to fool out of towners. They are "hills"about 1000 feet max. Oh boy! . Mountains? Too funny.

I am a little afraid of heights and was worried about the ski lift, but it was a piece of cake! We were there in the fall and the view is spectacular! The slide was a blast! I let it rip my very first time down and I'm 49! Can't wait to go back!

The slide was as dangerous, fun, or safe as an intelligent person makes of it, and therin lies the problem. The slide is made of concrete, and if you are not very good at it, but decide to go faster than you should, then you could be very seriously hurt. It was a lot of fun, but I do not recomend it for children under 12 at all. The view going up to the slide was spectacular in the fall!

I've been going since I was a little girl. It is so beautiful and there is nothing in the midwest like it. The dips are the best, especially when you go really fast down them! Can't wait to come back some day it's one of my favorite childhood memories!! It's so unique!!

Loved the Alpine Slide and have been on it many times since its inception. I don't like heights so am never thrilled with the ski lift up but the coming down is so much fun, I just deal with it. I was last down it in 2005 at the age of 49. I recommend you do a first run slowly to learn how to control your sled and ride the curves. The signs to slow down are there for a reason. 20 years ago I was racing my husband and I flipped on a curve and ended up with the worst sprained ankle of my life. My fault for pushing the limits. The sledder is in complete control. Give it a try, you will love it.

I loved the staff and the alpine slide. Everyone was so nice to my son and my husband. There were so many fun things to do in the area. I enjoyed the horse rides and the canoe tour of the poplar river. I also tried my hand at mountain biking. Sooooo cool. Lutsen Mountains is the high point out of all our family vacations. Better than Italy, Hawaii and Disney Land by far.

We visted on July 3, 2006. My husband and son had an accident on the way down the slide. When they reached the bottom they were totally ignored by the staff. My five year old son had a bloody nose and lip, and abrasions covering his face. When no one came to us I took my son to the ticket counter where I was handed a plastic bag with one band aid, a couple pieces of gauze, and some alcohol wipes. I thought they would take us to a first aid station or offer to take us to a rest room, nothing at all was offered. A man behind us asked if he should get his wife who is a nurse. When it because obvious that we were not going to recieve any help from the staff we said yes thank you. She came and was great and got him cleaned up. Sure the slide was fun, until you get hurt.
