Ordered steak and shrimp from early bird menu.
We are senior citizens on limited income. Steak was fatty and full of grizzle. Returned to chef. Waitress offered something else but my husband was disgusted so he said no. Received check and was charged for meal he did not eat. He complained to the hostess whose reply was"What do you expect from early bird menu". Does this mean that we get a lower grade of meat when we order from that menu? We go to Wildwood twice a year but will never eat at Schellengers again.
My friend and I ate at Schellenger's on Sunday night. The service was awful. The food wasn't much better. The Manhattan Clam Chowder was very salty, the house dressing was bland, the flounder was dry and flavorless, and the crab cakes were mushy and unseasoned.
The service was poor. We ordered water to drink, which were served in baby glasses. The waiter never returned to ask if we needed any more to drink during the meal. I had to walk to the wait station, and grab a pitcher of water. We left a $5 tip, but my friend was afraid it wasn't enough. He was in line before me to get change for more tip, but the cashier reached past him to get the check and money in my hand, completely ignoring him.
I would avoid this place at all costs. The reviewers who said the meal was fantastic either work there or have never had decent seafood before.
We dined at Schellenger's Restaurant on Sunday, September 2, 2007. All the junk on the top of the building is a trap for tourists.
We dined there for Sunday evening dinner. My wife had the shrimp scampi, an excellent preparation and sizeable portion. I had the devil's platter: 6 shrimp scampi, 6 oz filet mignon, and 6 oz lobster tail. All were excellent quality. Make sure to tell the waitress that medium well steak means just about no pink in the meat - mine was more like medium rare when first served. Other than that one glitch, dinner was excellent as was the service. I can see why in he middle of the summer, there can be lines down the block waiting to get in for dinner.
