River House Tea Room, New Braunfels

My daughter and I went to the Tea House, I have been to this location before and I have not had the best experience so I thought lets try it one more time, Well this was the worse, the wait was 25 min after 30 min I went back to ask how much longer the the girl taking the name (very young) and she said we are telling guest now 1 hr, so I was like ok, how much longer for me and she was like I don't really no. So there was a older lady out side she just came up and she was raising heck because she was a regular, and after 10 min they took her and her 5 guest in, before us, so i went back in and talked to a older gentlemen and he was like she had reservations, I told him no she did not, because she was running her mouth saying she should not have to wait when she is a reg. Over all I will not go there again, very rude, and pricey and the food is not that great...My opinion but I live in this area and I am a reg. and they are just not nice...

We ate there several times, the food was great, the service was fantastic and we recommend it to everyone. The dessert was also fantastic. Tell everyone.

It isn't absolutely the same as a top quality British tea room like Betty's in North Yorkshire but I love this place all the same!! The food is beautifully prepared, the atmosphere sweet and English floral, the serving staff friendly and helpful. Good choose of English teas. Definitely try if you are British!

My fiancee and I actually found this restaraunt by accident. Words cannot describle how wonderful our experience was with the whole setting starting from the little cafe tables outside, The stemware, the whole ambiance. The food was out of this world. We arrived towards the evening and they put a candle on our table for us. It was incredibly romantic. The food was brought out and all of the appetizers and the rest of our dishes were not only huge portions and delicious, but they looked terrific. I highly recommend the Strawberry trifle. Its heaven on earth. My Fiancee was at a loss for words and actually told the waitress it was the best food he has ever tasted. He is in the Army and has traveled all over and he said this didnt even compare to the eateries he's been at. The Chef came and spoke with us. We loved this place so much, We are going to see about having our Wedding Reception here. It is just incredible. We were very very pleased and we look forward to going back. Its a two hour drive but well worth it.

When visiting Greune we always have to stop to eat at this tea room. The food never disappoints us, it is delicious, fresh,creative and the presentation is wonderful. Love the selection of homemade soups, quiche and desserts! The professional, friendly staff completes the experience and the ambiance of the cozy tea room very special. If there is a little wait for a table, believe me it is worth waiting for. Chef Carol and her staff work hard to make each visit to the tea room absolutely the best!

Living in NY we have access to many types of food and tend to be food snobs. Historically when visiting Texas I do not eat out much. I find the food heavy and not very good. This place changed my mind. The food is fresh, presented in a stunning manner, service is excellent and price is reasonable. The restaurant was clean and cute. The guacamole was the BEST that I have ever had. I would visit this restaurant in future visits to Texas. Nicole Smith NY

My boyfriend and I went there on our second anniversary, and it was fabulous. First, the setting is unique and cozy. The restaurant is actually in a very small cottage-style home. The setting is one of casual elegance, a mix of the very finest food, wine, and service. Our waiter was truly the very best that I have ever had. He was attentive, helpful, patient (I had no idea what I wanted to eat), and seemed to have what we wanted before we asked for it. I ordered the Tortilla-Crusted Tilapia (I know the name doesn't sound appetizing), and it was incredible! Before you actually get your entree, you are served the most delicious, warm sourdough bread and butter. The prices were quite low (I think my entree was $14), especially considering that you would pay nearly that much at a not so great "chain" restaurant. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who enjoys delicious food, excellent service, and a cozy, beautiful atmostphere in which to enjoy all of the above. I loved it!

We call it one of our favorites! We love that the Tea Room is now open on Friday evenings! We enjoy the Chef visiting the table. My husband and I recently dined at the tea room and he wanted a steak and the waitstaff shared it did not begin serving until a bit later...Chef walked up to table and made it a point to see that he got his hearts desire...We recently treated our Son-in-Law who is leaving for Iraq and our Daughter to the Tea room and they just loved it. Want a wonderful place to stop in at Gruene? This is it. The tea room is beautiful and the people and food are special. I love it!

Everything is so classy. Coffee in little cup/saucers and the atmosphere very elegant. The service was exceptional as well. Refills were given without having to glare them down LOL Very victorian/homey and classy I will DEF go back over and over... The only thing on the con side is that parking is very limited and tight. However, the food and service is well worth they back and forth needed to leave LOL I appreciate such an establishment in New Braunfels. Class and elegance that is affordable!Now the average person can experience fine dining too!-Jessyie
